On a fresh install (Lion + DisplayLink drivers) with unchanged Power Saving options (Lion's defaults).

Cmd+option while clicking on the 'Display' pref. pane brings a (working) 'Rotate' option.

We are aware of this and working with Apple to try and find out why the rotation option is not always available.

so what do we do in the meantime?

I have a MBP 15" 2009 that cannot rotate screen, so basically it's useless right now.

having the same issue too. i've heard that some people worked around by using some 3rd party app to force the rotation. Can't recall the app at the moment though.

The answer is within this forum.

download the very small app, display rotation menu.app and then run it, use it, and you can uninstall it and the settings remain intact.

Remember to use the Cmd-Option keys the first time you open Display prefs. In case you open it normally just close and reopen System Preferences application and press Cmd-Option while selecting the Display prefs icon.
If for any reason it doesn't work, please post the model you are using. Thanks
