Are you using the 1.6b3 driver? Check /var/log/system.log and see if there are any DisplayLink errors.

Are you able to try the device on another system and see how it behaves there?

awald 01-20-2011 04:01 PM

I am using the 1.6b3 driver. I will look at the log this evening. I have plugged the device into a netbook running Windows 7, which caused the netbook to crash, and a PC running Windows XP, which worked fine.

i insert PC Adapter and get crash message from Kernel.

Here is my /var/log/system.log

What drivers did you install? I'm not familiar with the drivers in the link you posted.

You should only need the 1.6b3 driver. In this case, the driver that caused the kernel panic was com.wisair.driver, whatever that is.

Can you use your DisplayLink product without installing those drivers?

awald 01-21-2011 09:36 PM

Any thoughts on how I can remove all software/drivers that Warpia required me to install and go through the process of installing whatever is necessary for the DisplayLink?

I do not have a time machine or any other back up of the entire system.

The error report that appears after I plug in the usb adapter is as follows:

If there is an uninstaller use that, otherwise go in /System/Library/Extensions and find it. You can do a 'sudo kextunload <filename>.kext' to unload it, which should hopefully fix your problem. You can also just 'sudo rm <filename>.kext' and reboot. Depending how it is setup, there may be multiple kexts for that one product.

Be careful you don't delete the wrong thing or your system might not come back up :-)

It appears that it is not the Display Link driver causing the problem. I removed all software and drivers related to the install and then did a step by step. The Display Link driver appears to be fine, but it is the Warpia Wireless USB Manager that causes the problem. After installing the Wireless USB Manager, rebooting, and then plugging in the wireless USB the CPU crashes. Any thoughts on how to avoid this? Is there another Wireless USB Manager I can use?

You'll probably have to work with Warpia support to resolve this. Might be a known issue with a specific release of OS X, or perhaps they have newer/beta drivers you can try.

I am running Snow Leopard.

Same exact issue here with my Atlona AiR3. Installed Displaylink drivers, restart, plug in USB adapter and get an immediate crash. Atlona support confirms issue is with Displaylink driver not supporting 10.6.6. All they could do is recommend a roll back to 10.6.5 (yeah right). No ETA for working drivers. Pretty bummed.

Can you post the OS X crash dump in a new thread? Are you using the 1.6b3 drivers for your DisplayLink device?

Someone else had an issue with a Warpia device, but it was the Warpia driver causing it to crash, not the DisplayLink stuff.
