Windows 8.1 on Lenovo Helix with DisplayLink 7.4.48853.0 not recgonising monitors
 

Hi,

I'm running:

• Lenovo Helix
• Lenovo ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock
• DVI monitor
• DisplayLink 7.4.48853.0
• Windows 8.1 Preview

The DisplayLink adapater shows in Device Manager as expected, but the system does not recognise the external monitor at all.

I've attached the log.

Do you have another monitor / cable you can try?

Was this working on Windows 8?

Hi James,

I know the monitor and DVI cable work. I've never tested the dock with Windows 8 (the dock came after 8.1).

It's now working ... but I'm a tad confused.

Here are my steps:

• Plugged in dock
• Installed Lenovo drivers (failed)
• Uninstalled Lenovo drivers
• Installed DisplayLink beta driver
• Drivers installed cleanly, but monitor never detected
• Rebooted multiple times, still no luck
• Gave up, went to work for a day (used machine there, no monitor), came home
• Plugged dock in as USB hub (keyboard + mouse) but then connected monitor directly to Helix via VGA
• At this point, the same monitor is physically connected Helix-dock-DisplayLink-DVI-monitor as well as Helix-VGA adaptor-VGA-monitor
• Monitor lit up and I worked away
• Noticed that my mouse was disappearing and screen alignment was wrong
• Went to Screen Resolution control panel and saw three screens: built-in, and the external monitor twice
• Disconnected VGA, monitor still worked (evidently DVI)

Is there anything useful for me to investigate now? Or just be happy that it's working?

Do you want another log, so maybe you can diff them?

(PS. Thanks for the beta drivers + these forums. Amazing support for hardware!)

Hi Tatham, apart from you conectivity issues, did you notice any performance Problems with your Helix? I run Helix i7/Windows 8 Pro and dock makes system unusable, mouse lags, CPU temp around 70°C/158°F.
