cannot boot at all

I cannot boot my machine. the drive is encrypted. It will not boot, even in safe mode. It black screens while windows is loading and says that windows could not be started because a driver required to start the system is missing or corrupt.
dlkmdldr.sys

I tried the option to skip driver signing and it makes no difference.

Why is it required? It does not seem to me that a display link driver should be required to start any computer. Especially one with two built in graphics adapters.

I cannot edit any files, I can't do anything because the drive is encrypted. So the windows repair tools do not even see a partition.

How can this be fixed?

Thanks,

The 'Woof

Hello,

There isn't details of your configuration but I would guess you have an outdated Windows 7 installation. That driver is signed by Microsoft and, if your computer might not have the latest Microsoft digital certificates.
Graphics drivers are used during Windows startup. That's not DisplayLink's design but Microsoft's. That's why you need to reboot each time you change graphics drivers. If we could do without reboot, we would more than gladly do it.

If you don't have an outdated Windows 7 installation, then maybe you have a corrupted hard drive like the error suggests.

DisplayLink has not released any new driver lately, so unless you have manually done something, then the issue comes from elsewhere.

Kind regards,
Alban
