Install Fails & Incompatibility

2 Attachment(s)
Hi, I tried installing the latest beta and non-beta drivers in 2 different machines and I am getting this screen after rebooting (same result in both machines, one laptop and one desktop). The result, the display icon does not show up in the tray bar.
When I try to search for a Display driver, it ends up with the 'Cannot install this hardware' screen. What is it looking for or where is this driver??

BTW, all my video drivers are latest versions and from original vendors.

Any help greatly appreciated..

PS: here's the install log

Hi

Thanks for the log files, however these show that you are running on XP, but the screenshots look like Windows Vista or Win 7. Can you clarify which OS you have problems on?

Thanks

Wim

Sorry about that, they are both XPs with some Vista-like themes. Thank you!

Solved! Had to research some older threads and followed aaronpriest advice on ATI graphic cards in this thread.

Thanks.

Just wanted to share my frustration and solution with anyone who is going through the same / similar issues.

I am using a Dell Inspiron 640m with an Mobile Intel 945GM graphics adapter inside, running XP will all latest updates.

Purchased the Arkview USB-2011 from TigerDirect. What I got from Tiger via UPS was listed as a Sabrent USB-2011 on the outer packaging, and a UGA USB 2.0 listed in the inner packaging and documentation.

The mini-CD that came with the unit had the Windows driver version 5.2 .21675 bundled with it.

I also went through where after running the installation wizard, Windows XP would prompt me to auto-install new device, then Windows would inform me that it could not locate the drivers automatically, and eventually shortly after spontaneously self / auto reboot, without even prompting me. This would cause the endless reboot loop as described in this and other forums.

Finally was able to get to Add / Remove programs with enough time to uninstall both “DisplayLink Core Software” and “DisplayLink Graphics”. Also had to DELETE the multiple “Unknown Devices” listed in Hardware > “Device Manager”. This stopped the reboots.

Still had to do a proper reboot to purge all remnants of old driver / software.

Found newer driver after doing some research on DisplayLink versions, on the Sabrent web site:

http://www.sabrent.com/drivers.php

Downloaded version 5.3 .25010 of DisplayLink.

After what seemed like a smoother / faster install, I still had the problem where Windows would not recognize the USB-2011, and “Unknown Devices” in the Device Manager would continue to stack up.

Finally stumbled on this forum and read the post from aaronpriest in topic:

Can't get any DisplayLink products I've tried to work with three laptops, any ideas?

The knowledge of re-installing the drivers manually from \Program Files helped me move to the right direction, FINALLY (big thanks to aaronpriest).

After all old “Unknown Devices” were deleted, did a “Refresh” in Device Manager and Windows found 2 new Unknown Devices. Re-Installed drivers manually from (the order in which you choose the drivers seems to be important):

1) C:\Program Files\DisplayLink Core Software\AdapterDriver\DisplayLinkGA.inf
2) C:\Program Files\DisplayLink Core Software\MirrorDriver\DisplayLinkMirror.inf

Windows shows at this point TWO (2) “DisplayLink Mirror Adapter”

Had to do yet another reboot at this point.

Windows does not detect any new Hardware, and the existing other devices previously installed are still in “Device Manager”.

At this point, I plugged in the Arkview / Sabrent / UGA device into my laptop’s USB 2.0 port.
Windows then detects yet a 3rd “Unknown Device”.
Used the same driver as #1 listed above. This time, Windows installs and configures the “DisplayLink Graphics Adapter”.

This is what the Device Manager looks like at this point:

Finally, one more reboot.

This time around, the Arkview / Sabrent / UGA device actually powers up (green LED) and FINALLY pushes out an image to the 2nd monitor.
Used WS-Tech USB-DVI to configure how I wanted the monitor to look, and it is working GREAT so far!

A lot of troubleshooting to get it working, so if you have the time patience, it looks like it will eventually work.
