problems with no video play - XP

I saw a similar issue with this listed for Windows 7 but I am having a similar problem with XP (service pack 2) on a laptop. I am streaming some HD video on my laptop. When I hook-up to my TV's HDMI port I have the player and video on my laptop but only the player on the TV. There is no video present (there is sound however). The only way my TV shows what is on the computer is in the mirror mode with extend off. I noticed a graphics setting that corrected this for 7. Is there something similar for XP?
