Displaylinkmanager service problem

Hello, I am in trouble with Windows 7 x86 embedded operating system.

I am with HP thin client t610.
The installed OS in the thin client HP t610 is Windows 7 x86 embedded.
I connect to thin client two monitors.
The first monitor is connected with DVI cable and it's work fine without troubles.
The second display is HP Elite Display S140U and here is the problem.
All drivers are installed.

I do these things to setup second displey for the first time:
I start the thin client.
I Install the drivers for second display HP Elite s140u.
The Windows 7 embadded OS recognize the HP Elite Display s140u and it's work fine, but after restart of the thin client, HP Elite Display s140u doesn't work never again, the indicator of s140u is white it's not orange but the screen is black.

To solve this problem I should disconnect s140u device from thin client, I should restart the thin client, after reboot the thin client I should connect the s140u device, and everything is work again to next restart of thin client with Windows 7 embadded OS.
The second way to solve this problem is to go Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and there is one service of name DispayLinkManager, this service is with setting to automatically start by default but when I reboot the thin client this service is not start to work automatically, I should to start it manually and then HP Elite s140u start to work without problems.
But after every reboot of the system the user need to go services to start the DispayLinkManager service manually.

I tried HP elite display s140u with Windows 8 x86 embadded OS installed in different model of HP thin client and I don't have any problems.

I tried HP elite display s140u with Windows 7 x64 enterprise in Lenovo Desktop machine and I don't have any problems.

But with WIndows 7 embadded OS, HP Elite s140u doesn't work fine.

I tired with power shell command to start DisplayLinkManager service and it's work fine.
I tried with cmd command to start DispayLinkManager service and work fine.
I tired to write script to start DispayLinkManager service with dos command in bat file and it's work fine.
I tired to copy the bat file with dos command to start DispayLinkManager service in the startup but it's not work.
I tired with task sheduler to shedule service but again it doesn't work.

I think the problem is in the Windows 7 embadded operating system.

I can't connect with HP technical support to discuss the problem.

I will be happy to see your posts about the problem.

Thanks and regards .

Tanner Zaitt.

Hello Tanner,

We don't support the different Windows 7 Embedded flavours.
Your observations are in line with what we investigated last year on the subject.

We know people use our 7.7 M4 and 8.0 drivers successfully with Windows 7 Embedded.
I would recommend trying them.

Kind regards,
Alban

Thank you!

I was tried the latest Displaylink Drivers but it doesn't work.
I removed all drivers for Hp Elite Display, and DisplayLink.
Now I use only displaylink driver 7.7 M4 and the problem is solved!

Thanks again!

Hey, thank you, I tired exactly 7.7.M4 driver and everything work fine!
8.0 version, it doesn't work, I can't install it.
I downloaded it from displaylink download web page.

The installer sayed the driver is modified please connect with your vendor.

Hello,
This error message means that the digital signature cannot be validated.
We sign packages and refuse execution when not validated so packages can't be altered by malicious parties who can then redistribute the package with something else undesirable embedded.

On your case, I believe this is because your Windows 7 Embedded lacks the possibility to validate SHA-256 hashes. Previous drivers were using SHA-1 hashing but, because it has been deprecated by many because someone once managed to do a collision, we have upgraded to using SHA-256 which is still believed fully secure, for now.

On full Windows, KB3033929 is allowing to validate SHA-2.
I don't know of the necessary patch for Windows Embedded.
However, if you do find out, I am interested to know so I can add it to our FAQ on the subject. Even if we are unable to officially support that OS, we are willing to make it easier for other people in your situation!

Kind regards,
Alban

Hi, thank you again for your help I appreciate it.

I tired to install version 8.0 but again I see the same message:
"The software package appears to have been modified.
Installation aborted.
Please contact your vendor for assistance."

Before to start installation of version 8 I installed Windows6.1-KB3033929-x86.msu but without effect.

Yes, from its description, I expect KB3033929 to be for full Windows, not Embedded.

If everything works with 7.7 M4, there is little to no value for you to spend time trying to find a way to get SHA-2 working on your WES/WEC.
You're unlikely to get new primary graphics card driver for the platform, therefore unlikely to require the latest DisplayLink driver to match it.
