Crazy CPU Usage with Dell XPS 13 and Ubuntu 16.04

I got the Dell D1000 "docking" station and I installed the DisplayLink drivers for Ubuntu to make the two video outputs work. The outputs work but the CPU usage is crazy, between 25% and 75% in a system with 4 CPUs and the external displays are lagging, there is a delay of some milliseconds between one frame and the other, in particular under heavy usage. The system is barely usable and I wonder what should I do to improve the situation. My laptop is the Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition with Ubuntu 16.04 stock (with Unity) except for the kernel that is the 4.8.0-30-generic. What can I do?

I have the same issue and the workaround I am using is to disable unity and use metacity instead. Then the CPU usage goes down a lot.
