The first thing I would suggest is using the v5.6 M1 release on the DisplayLink website as there were a number of fixes in v5.6 to support Lenovo laptops better.
If the adapter is still not appearing in the system tray, please check that the USB device is being detected by Windows on the USB bus in device manager.
