Thumbs down Call for action - join me in filling complaints for misleading advertising

Hello, everyone.

The situation with lack of Linux support is unacceptable. DisplayLink keeps advertising they provide support for "all operating systems", when they actually don't. This is misleading advertising. To make issues worst, DisplayLink states that it doesn't respond to direct costumer queries, and also does not provide any feedback in the forums.

I call on everyone who is dissatisfied to join me in an effort to make DisplayLink stop with these practices.

1. In Facebook and Twitter, (politely!) call DisplayLink to attention, and let other costumers know of this situation. Just recently (Dec. 12th), DisplayLink posted to it's Facebook wall an ad that reads "Any device / Any operating system." Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DisplayLink.social. Twitter handle: @displaylink

2. File actual complaints with consumer protection agencies. DisplayLink has offices in the US and UK.
  • In the US, complain to the local Better Business Bureau. Since the company has offices in Palo Alto, complaints can be directed to the San Jose BBB. Complaints can be filled using this link: https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complai...le-a-complaint. If this fails, there is the option to contact the Federal Trade Commission (regulator in charge of false advertising). Although the FTC will not take specific action, but instead only look at trends, it surely can't sit well for a company to have complaints against it on file.
  • In the UK, complain to the Advertising Standards Authority (industry self-regulation entity): go to http://www.asa.org.uk/Consumers/How-...orm/Step1.aspx to make an online complaint, or write an email to new.complaints@asa.org.uk. If this fails, the next step is to contact the Office of Fair Trade, which is a government agency.
The objective of this action is that DisplayLink stops with it's misleading advertising and that it shows the decency to respond to us, consumers, who were defrauded by their misinformation.
