Displaylink Core Software vs Graphics Driver
Hello,
I'm a new user on here but i have been using Displaylink software to drive our conference room solutions for around three months now. We initially did a deployment of the Displaylink core software to ~3100 machines and it was successful. The 'Displaylink USB Graphics Software for Windows 8.1M0' installer was used. Here's where it gets interesting - that same installer when used on some machines in our environment installs the 'Displaylink Graphics Driver' instead of 'Displaylink Core Software' in Add & Remove Programs. I would assume the graphics driver is a component that is also included on the machines with the Displaylink Core software install, but why is it not installing the full software? FYI this is all Windows 10 x64 1607 Last edited by TuxThePenguin; 03-24-2017 at 02:18 PM. Reason: typo |

Hello,
The installer includes two driver architectures so the user or IT manager doesn't have to select what to run. From Windows 7 until Windows 10 Threshold 2, it uses our classic architecture and you will have the core software with a Windows service, very low level graphics driver... From Windows 10 Redstone 1 (Anniversary Update), we use a new driver architecture leveraging new OS features. Devices using DisplayLink are listed with graphics adapters so the name used is the same as the other graphics adapter vendors, hence the graphics driver. There is no Windows service anymore, the very low level graphics driver is now part of the OS. Kind regards, Alban
