Question Continuously Re-installing Driver?

We have a user who had a Lenovo X1 Carbon, and now a Surface Pro 3 which uses the Lenovo USB 3.0 dock to connect to an external monitor. Both systems are running Win 8.1.
This user has a Plantronics MDA-200 switching box (USB) connected to the dock, which allows the user to use a headset for both the PC and phone.
The MDA will randomly start flashing/blinking, and the box is non-responsive.
We'll then unplug the USB connection to the dock, and plug it back in.
The MDA then blinks once normally, and the PC insists the DisplayLink driver needs to be re-installed. Once re-installed, the MDA operates normally...for a while (could be a days, could be hours) and then the MDA starts flashing erratically and the process starts all over again.
Is there a reason the DisplayLink drivers insist on being re-installed? This happened on both pieces of hardware. (Lenovo and Surface)
The dock has the most recent firmware.
Any insight as to why this setup insists on re-installing the DisplayLink drivers?
Thanks all in advance!
