Thumbs up Install error after connecting device

Hi there,

I'm having a similar issue.

I running Windows 8.1 preview 64bit with a 2nd monitor connected via DVI. My third screen required Displaylink and worked perfectly with Windows 8. Now I've installed the beta drivers, but the device manager still says my device e2251Fwu has an error. when I click to find and update drivers, finds the correct drivers to install but gives an error message (03AA). Attached log.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Mark

Hi,

Are you trying to update the drivers through Windows Update? If so please point the Update Drivers mechanism to C:\Program Files\DisplayLink Core Software\ and enable check all subfolders.

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks,
James

Hi James,

I've tried as you suggested. It continues to say that it can't find suitable driver software. This error is repeated whether I ask windows update to search for the best driver, or if I download the latest drivers from the AOC website.

Does this mean my screen in incompatible with this version of windows?

Hi,

Only the 8.1 preview driver from this forum will work with Windows 8.1 - drivers on Windows Update and those from the AOC website aren't compatible.

The AOC USB monitor you have is definitely compatible with Windows 8.1 - I use it with this OS quite a bit myself.

Can you try disconnecting the monitor, uninstall the DisplayLink software, run the cleaner tool from here http://www.displaylink.com/support/ticket.php?id=297, reinstall the software and reconnect the AOC monitor?

Thanks,
James

Hi James,

I uninstalled the software and then ran the cleaner tool as instructed. Once reinstalled, the software still does not pick up the screen.

Hi,

Can you let me know what the error details are?

Right click on the adapter that displays the "03AA" error, select Properties and let me know what the Error details are in the "General" tab.

Also do you have both ends of the Y cable connected?

Thanks,
James

Hi James,

I've attached a screenshot of the general properties page for the e2251fwu. If I click 'update driver', it makes no difference whether I search automatically or when whether I browse to the ...\displaylink core directory, it says no drivers found.

I'm using a powered USB hub with both ends of the Y cable connected. This setup worked perfectly on Win7 and Win8 so I assume this isn't the problem.

Hi,

This looks to be an issue with file permissions.

Apart from reinstalling the OS, options are kind of limited.

What you can try is running Analyze disk and then Defragment disk to see if that helps.

Thanks,
James

Hi James,

That's disheartening news. can you elaborate on the file permissions issue? Do you have an idea when the next build on the software will be available? maybe that could fix my issue. I have run analyse and defragment on the HD as suggested.

It seems from my research that there is no way to uninstall the 8.1 preview update.

I hope this isn't the end of the road with my query.

Hi,

I'm currently looking to see if there is a way of fixing the permissions issue.

Bear with me whilst I look into this.

Thanks,
James
