Ok I reproduced here in our lab. Took the Lion partition on my test machine, cloned it straight on a Mac Pro and the issue happens as described.
Hopefully it's something we can fix, debugging now.

More on the reproduction. The Mac Pro I'm using has an ATI card and an nVidia card. If I remove the nVidia one the SW works just fine. If I remove the ATI one the bug is still there.
jbarrow has Intel+nVidia, my MacBook is Intel only. I can see a theme.
