Fit to widescreen TV

I have a 46'' screen & have windows 7.

I can't fill my screen - using fit to screen on extend the max I can obtain is a screen which fills top to bottom but only part of the screen lengthways, so the area shown is 22'' x 27'', 35'' diagonal, nearly a square picture, & not as illustrated on the videos on the website.
Playing a widescreen video the picture is smaller still.

Am I missing something?

I've now solved this by adjusting the settings of my TV

The problem I have now is that I can't move windows in extend mode - I'm using windows 7 and moving a reduced window to the right of the laptop screen locks that window to the edge of the laptop screen. I feel there's probably a simple solution to this - please tell me what it is and I'll leave you alone!
