Default Testing of Plugable Dock and Android Phones

Hi,

We just purchased a Plugable dock with a view to perhaps use it as a desktop PC replacement as we currently have thin clients in our workplace and connect via Terminal Services.

We are using the DisplayLink software (Is there anything else to use?) and found out that the phone does not charge at the same time which is a shame.

Also, the screen on the phone stays on permenantly which drains the battery some what and if you lock the screen it blanks the monitor also.

While using Microsofts RDP App, it was annoying that the displaylink cursor was present as a cursor was already on screen, could it be possible that in full screen applications the choice to disable the DL cursor?

The screen is a bit washed out when using the dock and is in no way as clear or as sharp as the phone screen, we are using the DVI cabled, is it any better when using a HDMI lead? We were using a phone that outputs at 1080 and the resolution was really quite bad.

When will there be an update and is anything I've mentioned going to addressed perhaps?

This has potential to replace 300 workstations and so hoping for some good news! ha

Thank you

James

Hi,

There is no way to charge the phone. Wireless Charging, Powered USB, OTG cables..... tried it all, it doesn't work. See:

About the screen issues, I am using "SecondScreen" and "Pie Control" apps to overcome some of the issues. The only problem is: your phone has to be rooted to use SecondScreen.

Android + Displaylink works, but it is not ideal (yet). Maybe a Microsoft Lumia 950 is a better solution for you. Or just wait till "docking your smartphone" becomes mainstream. It's still in a testing phase.

Couldn't they address this issue at least?

Yes, Google can address this on Android like they did on ChromeOS where you can extend.
Android only supports cloning and you obviously cannot clone a switched off display.
