Default MB169B+ USB monitor not detected

This is a similar question to ndeubert's post found here, I did not want to hijack his thread with my own question so I created a new post.

I'm using a fresh install of 16.04, and followed all the instructions found here.

I even went back to make sure I didnt miss installing anything, by rerunning all of the commands. Everything was up to date.

The device I am trying to use is the ASUS MB169B+.

Running after following the instructions to install the DisplayLink driver, and plugging in the device. The command lsusb shows that the device is recognized.

Changing the USB port and rerunning the command correctly shows the device being recognized on the new USB port.

When I open System Settings > Displays, I only see the built in display.

Hi Crees,

Could you please gather logs (instruction is here) and post them in this thread?

Thanks,
Szymon
