Default Can't set resolution higher than 1024 x 768 with RC driver

I just installed 5.2 RC driver on my Radeon HD 3200 system (latest drivers installed) and the maximum allowed resolution by the DisplayLink is 1024x768 when the projector it is connected to can go to 1280x720 (which the graphics card can also support).

Please advise with any suggestions.

Hi Ross,

In the folder C:\Program Files\DisplayLink Core Software\Debug\ you will find lots of debug files and a copy of the projector edid. Could you please zip up this folder and post it here so that we can see why the mode list is not as you expect.

Best regards,
Martin

Hi Ross,

The good news is that the edid supplied is valid and appears to come from your projector. The bad news is that it doesn't contain the 1280x720 mode that, from what I can see on the web about the projector, should be there.

These are the modes the edid says the projector can support:
-- 640 x 480 @ 60Hz IBM, VGA
-- 800 x 600 @ 56Hz VESA
-- 800 x 600 @ 60Hz
-- 1024 x 768 @ 60Hz VESA

I suggest you wiggle the vga cable a bit, and in the meantime, I'll ask around to see if there is anything else that can be done.

That's odd.

When I connect directly to that projector with a wired cable it works fine. I will try jiggling.

I've had a chat with our resident edid guru, and the news is not good. There was a winge that the projector was old, but otherwise the edid looked fine. It is likely that the reason it works when directly attached is that the graphics vendor has added in this mode even though the edid doesn't expressly say it is supported. We do a similar thing in some circumstances, but evidently not in this case.

We used to have a method of adding in additional modes for the display manually, but this is currently broken, so a bug has been raised.

Sadly, there is nothing I can do about the issue now. Look out for maintenence releases, and check back with us on the forum for updates.

Best regards,
Martin

Bummer. Is there nothing to be done by using any utilities out there. Can someone edit an edid file? Manually correct the issue external to your software?

Thanks for following up.

Hi Ross,

I am not aware of a utility to do what you require. I have, however, fixed the problem that prevents us from adding additional modes to the registry. The fix will be in 5.2M1, due in the near future (I guess 4-8 weeks, but no promises).

I'll post the registry key once I've worked out what it should be for your device.

Martin.

Hi Ross,

Our latest driver is now available which will allow you to force a resolution to be available, even if it is not explicitly mentioned by the monitor.

Could you please try the latest version of the software (from www.displaylink.com) and if you need the registry modification, I'll work out how to get it to you.

Best regards,
Martin.
