i cant seem to figure out what is happening in this case. I have 6 Cirago USB 2.0 HDMI adaptors, 3 at my work and 3 at home.

At home they are connected to a USB hub at work i plug them into 3 usb ports on my laptop. i carry the laptop back and forth, running Win7 pro.

this morning is the 3th time i loose a monitor. it will not detect it. the displaylink adaptor shows up in "Devices and printers", but the monitor is never detected. this happens out of the blue. I unplug one of the working adaptors and attach it the the screen that did not come up on boot and it works no problem. i try the "broken" adaptor on another computer and it does detect and install the driver, but no monitor.

In the "device manager" the broken adaptors always show up as "USB display adapter" and not like the working ones that show "USB HDMI adapter".

I have enables and disabled "Aero", uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, used the beta version 7. To no avail.

The display manager does not see the adaptors that are broken, and they are not available to choose as monitors in windows. But the crazy thing is that they do show up under "Devices and Printers" .

Is this really not a user error? is there a problem with this device, in general or just under Win7? I wish i could just call their support, but thats not an option it seems.

You may have the problem of PID 8060, covered by this article:

that is indeed the issue.

all 3 keep showing up as 8060, regardless how many times i try.

I will send the adaptors back to the distributor.
what model should i buy instead? getting the same seems like asking for trouble, but you guys must have another model that is new and less prone to these hardware flaws.

We only sell the chips and don't do the hardware design. We cannot recommend one manufacturer over another I'm afraid.
