View Full Version : Very Laggy and "Fuzzy" External Displays - Lenovo USB 3.0 Dock

I have two external monitors hooked up to my Lenovo USB 3.0 Dock.

In Windows 7 the setup worked perfectly, but in Windows 8 the actions on the external monitors are laggy and the screen sometimes seem to loose focus and become "fuzzy".

It is a real pain and was wondering if there is a fix?

I have attached my DisplayLink Support File information.

This should work with the same performance as Windows 7, however it sounds like the quality is being dropped to keep the display interactive.

The system looks powerful enough, so I wonder if there is an issue with the USB bus. Do you get the same issue with the USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports on the laptop?

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Each port has the same effect. I have also tried reinstalling the drivers for each port and the entire DisplayLink Device to no avail.

It's real bothersome as everything was working perfect in Windows 7.

Exact same problem for me. Running latest drivers 7.1 on a Lenovo X1 Carbon@W8.

Just for fun i connected the dock to a Windows 7 laptop - full performance. I guess this is related to USB 3.0 performance i Windows 8.

Is it the desktop that looks fuzzy, or certain apps on the desktop. Or is it the start menu or Windows 8 apps?

It is the extended displays only - the images/text is blurred and then it displays ok after some seconds.. (it is NOT optimised for video - when this mode is on everything is unreadable)

The mouse is sometimes lagging on the extended displays too

Everything is ok on the laptop screen

Tried on different laptops and diffent usb 3 docks (with DisplayLink)

This can't be the first you have heard of this, there are other threads with the exact same annoying issues. So far my experience with DisplayLink technology has been brutal to say the least.

Found those threads in about a minute.

Only one of those threads is possibly relevant to the fuzzy issue in Windows 8. There could also be more than one cause (and possibly more than 1 symptom as people assume that they are seeing the same as someone else).

So I want to make sure I understand individual issues rather than combining them and assuming they are the same problem, even though they are different apps, on different GPUs and even different OSes.

I have an X1 Carbon running Windows 8. I had these fuzziness and lag problems when I first received it but I did a full update of all drivers and firmware and it went away. It ran fine for a few months - but in the past week it's back to being laggy, blurry at times, slow etc. Close to unusable. Pretty disappointed for such a high end machine & equipment.

What has caused this? Was it a windows update recently? Anyone else hving these problems still with this USB dock.

Can some DisplayLink folks please contact me and help?
