I have a Dell u2340t connected to a Surface Pro running Windows 8.1. I have had one consistent problem since I purchased the Surface Pro and the U2340t, protected video content from any Metro/Windows 8 app will not play on the DisplayLink device. This includes the Hulu, Netflix, CW, MS Video, etc. Unprotected content plays fine, but nothing else.

I can move the window over from the u2340t to the Surface display and it runs fine. Only when I try to run it on the DisplayLink device do I get the error. I can visit the websites and play it through the desktop browsers and the metro browser if plugins are not required.

Should I be able to play protected content through Windows 8 apps on a DisplayLink device? Or is this a limitation of the software?

Hi,

Are you using this dock monitor?

I attached a file run with Advanced Diagnostics. Hopefully this will help. I tried running videos under Netflix and Hulu, both failed to play over the DisplayLink monitor.

Hi,

Unfortunately this is a restriction of the Dell S2340T.

As in Dell didn't license encrypted content playback in Windows 8 apps from DisplayLink? Or do any devices based on this DisplayLink chipset support this?
