When the computer is docked, the audio jack on the laptop is disabled and is defaulted to the audio jack on the docking station. This is incredibly inconvenient...any way to fix this problem?
Using the Dell USB 3.0 Docking Station and 7.5 M0 software on both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 laptops
You can change the default playback device, e.g. from instructions here: http://www.7tutorials.com/how-change-default-playback-recording-audio-device
That should persist across re-attachments of the dock.
If you're not interested in using the sound output from the dock, you can disable that in device manager, then the sound system should not even try to use it.
The software should only enable the audio jack on the dock if either a headphone is plugged into it, or you have attached an audio capable HDMI/DisplayPort monitor. Unfortunately the presence of an audio capable monitor may be causing your dock to switch audio output to it - this should be fixed by just telling Windows to assert your preference.

So I have the opposite issue. When I plug into the DisplayLink the audio continues to stream from the laptop. In fact the audio jack from the DisplayLink doesn't even recognize when I plug in a headphone. I can plug in a headphone directly into the laptop and that would work. I go to Sound and only see the laptop speaker as an option for playback device.
How can I get the audio jack from the DisplayLink to work?
Using a Targus USB 3.0 DV Docking Station
It looks like the audio driver is not even installed. Does it show up under device manager?

DisplayLink does show up in my device manager. Screenshot attached.
I meant the device manager under Computer Management. See attached of how I expect it to look.

Gotcha. Yes it does appear. However there is an error associated with it, "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". I suppose the question now is how do I go about fixing this?
If you can't see the screenshots clearly the driver version currently installed is 6.1.7601.18208

Hi,
Please try these steps:
Right click on Targus device in device manager
Select Driver
Select Update Driver
Select Browse my computer for driver software
Select Browse
Enter C:\Program Files\DisplayLink Core Software\
Check Include subfolders
Select Next
Thanks,
James
