I currently use 3 monitors that I run from my laptop. One of them is connected directly into the laptop's VGA port. The other 2 connect via separate USB ports using separate J5create's VGA/USB adapters.

I want to hook up a docking station to my laptop. The best reviews that I've found are for a Plugable USB 3 Docking Station (UD-3900). Since this docking station is a DisplayLink compatible unit, I was going to also purchase a couple of Plugable USB 3 VGA Adapters (DisplayLink certified) and basically scrap my J5create adapters in order to have the best docking station and to insure compatibility between the adapters and docking station. So, I have two questions before I start -

I'm assuming that I should uninstall the j5 drivers from my Windows machine to insure that there is not a video driver conflict before I go to install the DisplayLink drivers - is that correct?

Once I've uninstalled j5create and installed the necessary DisplayLink drivers, am I correct in assuming that plugging in the 2 DisplayLink VGA/USB adapters to 2 USB ports on the docking station should work just as if the adapters were plugged in directly to the laptop?

BTW - I'm running Windows 7 Professional on an HP ProBook 450 G1.

Thanks,
Tim

Hi,

Yes, you''ll need to uninstall the j5create software first.

Check out this FAQ for ensuring all the j5create software is removed: http://www.displaylink.com/support/ticket.php?id=359

Sure the experience is identical, see the user manual http://downloads.displaylink.com/manuals/DisplayLink_7.5_User_Manual.pdf for more details on installing DisplayLink software and using your DisplayLink enabled dock.

Thanks,
James

Thanks - this is exactly what I needed. Weeks ago, I tried to install DisplayLink drivers while j5create drivers were already on my machine. Long story short, it was a disaster.

I want to avoid the same mistake. Thanks for the confirmation and for the links.
