I am having an issue with my DisplayLink USB2.0 External HD Adapter with Windows 8.1. This is a brand new machine with Windows 8.1 pre-installed. The monitor works fine....it just shuts off the sound. The sound returns when I unplug the USB cable to the adapter. (Please note that the setup worked fine, sound and all on my previous Windows 8.1 pc). Here is what I'm running:

Dell XPS8700
CPU = i7-4770 @ 3.40GHz
24 GB RAM
64-Bit Operating system
Audio: Integrated 7.1 with Waves MaxxAudio
Windows 8.1

I ran the DisplayLink cleaner tool and rebooted.
Device manager calls the device: USB Display Adapters: USB to HDMI
Program Manager shows:
DisplayLink Graphics version 7.6.55705.0
DisplayLink Core Software version 7.6.55673.0

Logfile attached

Thanks for looking at this!

Hi James. Thanks for responding. Here is what's in my device manager:

Audio inputs and outputs:
1 Dell S2409W
Microphone (Webcam C260)
Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Speakers (USB to HDMI) *** this is present when DisplayLink connected, absent with not connected

Sound, video and game controllers:
AMD High Definition Audio Device
Realtek High Definition Audio
Webcam C260
USB to HDMI *** this is present when DisplayLink connected, absent with not connected

***** Issue resolved. I went into the Control Panel under Sound and chose the Realtek High Definition Audio option. Thanks for directing me there! *****
