Hello,

I've been trying today to change the MAC address on MacOS 10.10.3, however it doesn't seem to work:

consta-mba:~ root# ifconfig en5 lladdr 9c:eb:e8:1c:32:03
consta-mba:~ root# ifconfig en5
en5: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
ether 9c:eb:e8:1c:32:04
inet6 fe80::9eeb:e8ff:fe1c:3204%en5 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x6
inet 192.168.3.140 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.3.255
nd6 options=1<PERFORMNUD>
media: autoselect (1000baseT <full-duplex>)
status: active
consta-mba:~ root#

The above is just a silly example (changing the last byte from 04 to 03 which didn't work.

Can someone please tell me if this is possible?

Thank you!

Our drivers don't yet support this functionality.

On OS X the changed MAC address won't be permanent though. I believe it's reset even after a plug/unplug of the same USB card. And between reboots.

Would this be enough for you? In case we can increase the priority for this improvement.

Best regards,
Carlo

Hi Carlo,

I'm aware that the MAC address is not persistent across reboots and/or card removal.

Could you please find out from your engineering guys if there's any other possibility (even unsupported) that would still allow me to change the MAC address of the card?

Reason I'm asking this is that our IT guys whitlist one MAC address (belonging to an Apple NIC) but are not willing to whitelist the Dell D3100 USB Hub NIC, and I'd still like to be able to use it with a changed MAC.

Thanks a lot! Your help is appreciated!

Unfortunately there are no workarounds at the moment, it needs to be backed in the driver we supply. I'm going to raise the priority of this item.
