View Full Version : Displaylink 'on and off' flashing

Hi. I'm trying to use is the ASUS MB169B+ and have tried installing the latest drivers from the Displaylink site... and, also, Asus's site. The result is the same each time: The drivers install successfully but when the device is plugged-in to the computer via USB it is turning on and off... on and off... on and off. It will continue doing so -- until the USB connection is removed. I can watch the Device appear and disappear in the Device Manager. Help please?

Thank you for the logs and description, most helpful.

Are you using a USB Y-cable with this product?
If not, do you have an externally powered USB hub?

From the description, it sounds like a brown-out issue. More power needed than a single port can deliver, so voltage drops, the screen switches off before starting again...

The fact that the device drops from the USB, and Device Manager rules out a driver problem: before Windows knows which drivers to assign to a device, it needs to see that device.

Your diagnosis makes sense. No, no Y cable being used. And I don't have an externally powered hub. I do have hubs but they're not powered. I suppose you can buy one that is battery powered... and that is what you suggest I should do?

It may judicious to try with another USB port if available.
The Y-cable would allow you to get power from 2 USB ports. One of these ports could be a power bank if your computer only has 1 port or has none available.
I don't know of battery powered USB hubs, it may exist but I have never seen one.
