Hi,
is the DL-6000 series backwards compatible to USB 2.0?
It's nowhere mentioned on the website: http://www.displaylink.com/integrated-chipsets/dl-6000

Yes, it is compatible with USB 2.0.
We don't sell DisplayLink DL-6000 series chips to the public, only to manufacturers who have the datasheet with details of what we support and what THEY want to support.
When they make the product, it's up to them to decide what is going to be working and how.
For instance, they will most likely add a USB hub in their product so the DisplayLink DL-6000 chip in docking station will probably never be directly connected to a computer.

Just wondering:
Would it still be able to do 4096x2160@60Hz when connected via USB 2.0?
And would the DL3 compression simply downgrade the image quality until it fits within the USB 2.0 bandwith? Would the framerate also be reduced?

The monitors will be driven at 4Kp60 however, don't expect 60 full screen updates per seconds: we have an excellent solution, however it is not magic.
There are a number of variables taken into account and it's much more complex than this. The details are confidential proprietary information of DisplayLink and I will not be able to discuss implementation details on public forums.

I don't know where you see a coffin here... Our sales keeps growing, so I personally believe the company might be doing something right: we keep bringing improvements that other technology have been unable to deliver to date.
But DisplayLink is a business, not a charity. For employees to have work, we can't give away all our trade secrets on public forums for free!
We have open sourced the DL2 codec already.
I am sorry you expected that I'd just post trade secrets on a public forum. I will not.

So, you're earning your money from developing and offering drivers? Or wouldn't that rather be from selling hardware (designs)?
We have open sourced the DL2 codec already.

You are overreacting and implying things which are not correct.
I've asked in a very generic way if the image quality would degrade and/or if the framerate would be reduced when connecting your top product via USB 2.0 instead of USB 3.0, that's all.
These are normal questions that can be expected from normal users/customers.
