D3100 slow on Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS in a Thinkpad x260

I connected a new D3100 to a Lenovo Thinkpad x260 and also installed the DisplayLink for Ubuntu:

- Sound quality is not as good and strong as direct connection to the laptop
- The external monitor connected through HDMI has low refresh rate and also the pixels seem to be a little messed up. During typing this shows itself more.

What might be the reason and possible solution to this?

When it comes to the latter issue there was a similar thread on our forum I think (http://displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?t=65245). We have checked the workaround described in this article helped for a number of users:
