Good Evening,

I understand that it takes time to complete development on 5.x software to enable functionality on these new 2018 models. Do we have an estimate to when we will see an update that would allow 2018 MacBook Pros to function natively and not leveraging airplay's workaround?

+1 As the 4.3 very is useless, very bad screen resolution.

Good Morning,

Just to clarify, is the fix you're referring to something that DisplayLink will be distributing via drivers or are you waiting on a MacOS patch/change at this point?

I'm a little confused at what the issue is and would be interested if you could share some additional details about the nature of the problem. Is there a manual work-around?

Hi Alban,

I hope you are doing well. Just checking in on this issue to see if 5.0.1 included this fix? I did not see if listed in the release notes as fixing this issue, but I also did not see the 2018 MacBook issue listed there any longer as a known issue. Can you clarify for me if this fixed this issue

Edit: Strike that...I did indeed still find it in the 5.0.1 release notes.

Same issue here ,

Even the 4.3 beta 6 drivers don't work for me. Can only mirror the display which is very annoying.
Has anyone had success with either the 4.3 beta or the other ones ?

If you do buy another dock, please let us know what it is.

I am desperate for a resolution this issue but want to avoid junking my expensive investment in Displaylink technology and going down a new route that may also have problems.

any chance you have a beta release we could test here?

we have about 25+ users unable to dock and we are also unable to upgrade users from Sierra because of all this mess.

thanks!

Is there an update?
Or is there a way we can implement the fix by ourselves?

AlbanRampon

We don't know of a way for users to correct the OS themselves.
We keep on pushing and we're not certain what the hold up is on at this stage.

Alban, when you say "We keep on pushing and we're not certain what the hold up is", what does that mean exactly? Is there some non-DisplayLink party that is keeping updates from being pushed? Anyhow, eager for the fix whenever it is ready! Thanks

Hi Alban

Thanks for keeping us updated. I upgraded to Mojave as workaround to try to get past the issues with v.10 - only to find that there are issues with Mojave. At least I now get a picture on my multiple screens and not just a black screen we have made some progress.

Hopefully the significant amount of interest in rectifying the issue with DisplayLink and MacBook will see the team prioritise its rectification.

Appreciate the work that you and the broader team are putting into this.

Thanks!

Hello,

I am also using MBP 2018 with mojave.
Have you had any issue playing youtube?
When I play youtube without connection of Displaylink, it works well.
However, whenever I connect it to my MBP, it keeps showing loading signal, but never played.

Please check this issue as well.

Thanks,

just installed Mac OSX 10.14.1 and installed the Displaylink existing drivers 5.something on a MacBook pro 15 inch 2018. Still the same issues; black cursor only on external screens.

so people; do not get your hopes up on a this OSX software update alone ... I still hope that DisplayLink releases a update in the next 24 hours that fixes the issue on 10.14.1

We really need a fix for this on the 2018 MBP and what about the new MacBook Air DisplayLink? Will that also have the same issue?

Same here but much bigger numbers, around 350 users still on Sierra due to how bad High Sierra has been with DisplayLink. Those users who are on High Sierra are either stuck on 10.3.3 or just having to suck it up that they can't use DL as its awful via AirPlay.

Also getting lots of new 2018 MacBooks that still can't use DL on Mojave!

Can confirm that the latest macbook update did not solve the DL display issue.
Currently on 10.14.1, and the displays still show a black screen with cursor only.

I really hope that it will be fixed soon, as I now have a DL "workstation" that's pretty much useless without the monitors working.

I have a dual monitor setup with my 2018 MBP with Mojave 10.14.1, going through a Dell Universal Dock - D6000. I have the described problem on the DisplayLink driver download page and use the v4.3 Beta 6 driver as the workaround. Essentially this gives me one monitor that extends my display, and the other that mirrors my MBP screen but is blurry and doesn't use the full display. I have to keep my laptop open for this setup to work consistently. It's a less than optimal setup, but is getting me by.

@AlbanRampon can you give us any insight on when the next update to resolve this display issue will be available?

But, the macOS 10.14.2 Beta 1 is now out and fixes the 2018 model issue. Some users also confirmed.

I can Confirm this here to; MBpro 2108 15" i9; 10.14.2 beta (18C31g) and Displaylink driver v5.0.1

Cross my fingers that the beta is otherwise stable for me ... I dread installing beta´s for a reason ... but this issue was really disruptive to my productivity/flexibility

I can confirm Mojave 10.14.1 (release version) now works with Displaylink driver 5.0.1 on Macbook Pro 2018.

2 Displaylink monitors and 1 directly connected 4K USB-C monitor.

10.14.2 (18C31g) doesn't work for me with 5.0.1 driver.

Running a 2018 Macbook Pro 15".

My mate with a 2018 Macbook 13" gets a duplicate display across all three screens but cannot login as it crashes back to the login screen immediately upon entering in his password.

Still not quite there it would seem.

UPDATE:

I stand corrected; evidently in the Security Settings the Display Link extension was blocked on startup. Enabled that, all works now. woohoo!

Yep, updated my post above. I was doing it wrong - fixed it by enabling the extension in Security Preferences. For whatever reason, it wasn't enabled after installing the driver.

Michal, can you check the issue that youtube does not work with connecting external monitor?
As I posted before, with MBP 2018, youtube keeps loading never played.
However, when I disconnect displaylink, it plays.

I'm not experiencing this, also on the MBP with 10.14.2 beta.
Tested in Safari and Chrome, Only thing I experience is that when I use PiP in chrome, my monitors occasionally go black for a few seconds.

Other than that, no issues.

Hi Alban et al

I have 3 screens (one on the Mac and 2 externals) - a set up which is critical for my line of work.

I can only use 2 as my MacBook screen is replicated on one of the externals.

I have attempted to download 10.14.2 - Beta version issued on 28 Nov to see if this fixes it. It told me my Apple ID needed to be associated with an apple developer program to run the beta version - I downloaded that and have no idea as to what to do next.

I'm not a programmer - just a guy trying to be able to get my system working as I need it to so that I can get my work done.

Your assistance and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

M

Hello Michael,
As this is a public beta, you don't need a developer account.
You can enrol one machine from https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/
I did that from a brand new Macbook Air. It will then allow you to get the public beta when you check for system updates.
Regards,
Alban

10.14.2 has been installed on my system (the official Apple release, not the beta). At first, my 2 external monitors worked with the dock, meaning I was able to see my wallpaper, mouse, arrange the screens, etc.

Resolutions are mostly low resolution modes (even at 4k) and feels stuttery like airplay, but shows airplay off.

After about 5 minutes, both external screens went black with only a mouse cursor. This is getting ridiculous.

Just updated to 10.14.2 (after being on the beta versions) with a MBpro 2018 15" 2.9i; everything still works (2 Displaylink screens on a default 1920 4:3 resolution)!

I am now happy to unroll myself from the beta program and hopefully I can keep this osx version as my main version for the time to come ... I need some stability for my workflow

Hi Alban

As I updated my mac os to 10.14.2 and installed DisplayLink latest driver 5.0.1, nothing works still.

I installed the driver, then enable DisplayLink extension in my Security&Privacy settings too, and after I plugged the device to my MBA, nothing shows.

No AirPlay options, and no screen options in Displays settings too, things stay like I didnt plug no other screen, and only black screen on the other screen.

What else can I do? Pleaseeeeee help

THANKSS

Hello AKSG,
I will need logs here. I mean not only have we tried this many times, but the fix is even documented in the 10.14.2 release notes... I did that personally on a MBA 2018.
There's no AirPlay option on that OS. AirPlay was the temporary workarond when the OS API was not available.
I'd first remove the driver, then install it again, allow the extension, connect the device and then gather the logs.
Here is how to get the logs so my engineering team can look into this: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/755301-how-to-report-macos-issues-to-displaylink

Hi Wolfskin, thank you for the feedback.

Hi centersj, I think there's a confusion here. I don't see how 4K can be called a low resolution. You might refers to Retina and scaling of UI elements. We're aware of lower performance display when using scaling on Retina (that's what zooms the user interface elements so they are bigger on high resolution monitors). This is in discussion with the OS vendor as well. You can confirm this is the same thing by not doing scaling and checking performance is fine.

Kind regards
Alban

I just updated my MBP to Mojave 10.14.2 and am pleased to see my Startech USB3.0 to HDMI 4K is functioning.
I'm running a display at 2560x1080 60hz

It's working quite allright but found a couple of bugs on the extended display.

1) within safari there are quite some glitches. For instance when multiple tabs are visible in de bar, these tabs are glitchy (transparant on off). These glitches don't exist in Google Chrome. Also some subframes in websites don't show content while in Google Chrome the same site subframes do show content. Then again it's not safari related because these glitches are non existent on my MBP screen.

2) I notice though in some software where moving meters (LED VU meters) are present that these meters are lagging a bit. This only happens when the window is maximized. In initial opening state the act the same way as on my MBP screen.

3) the osx animations are a little less smooth than on the native screen.

CPU use is fine. No runaway process and no excessive use.
Performance of mouse is good. No noticable lag. Moving screens around is smooth as well.

Overall I'm quite happy with it .
