View Full Version : No Option to Allow Screen Recording - Mac 5.2.1

I recently updated my Macbook Pro (2017) to Catalina 10.15.2. I'm not having any luck getting the MacOS App or the 5.2.1 driver. I'm relatively tech savvy and read the trouble shooting guides and feedback posted in this forum.

I note that the driver requires the user to permit 'screen recording' however when I navigate to security & privacy/privacy/screen recording there is no option available to select allow screen recording for DisplayLink. Does anyone know a manual fix for how to allow screen recording?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as there's nothing worse than having to work on one monitor when you need a second!

Has anyone had any luck prompting the screen recording option by clearing the system cache or rebooting in recovery mode?

I would recommend contacting the manufacturer, Dell, as this product doesn't use DisplayLink technology...

The issue with kext cache was addressed in 10.15.1.
I'd recommend removing everything and reinstalling again.
You need to approve kext within 15 min of installation.

If, like annoyed-user, you are not using a DisplayLink product, the DisplayLink User Agent would not start and therefore the permission wouldn't be listed.

Kind regards,
Alban

Could it just be depending on an app? I use https://www.movavi.com/support/how-to/mac/how-to-record-screen-with-audio-on-mac.html and I've got no problems. Maybe there's just some system conflict? I'm a noob though:rolleyes:

I deleted/reinstalled the whole thing many, many times now. Also, i see the system information that com.displaylink.driver.DisplayLinkDriver is listed in the disabled software section. Reason -> NO USER CONSENT. What does it mean!?

Typically that means that the driver was not approved within the Security & Privacy settings.

DisplayLink has a knowledge base article here that may help --> https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004-macos-10-13-10-14-and-10-15-video-functionality

In order to get the Targus docks to work with the latest Catalina update we had to use the following steps.

1) Install latest DisplayLink Beta driver
https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1498
2) Plug in the AC power adapter that came with the Mac
3) open the Security > Privacy > Screen Recording (Notice there is nothing to click)
4) Plug in the docking station (which also has its own power)
5) The DisplayLinkUserAgent checkbox will now show up so you can check it
6) Reboot and remove the AC Power Adapter

Once these steps were completed the docking station continued to function, until rebooted and the DisplayLink Manager software was not running.
Opening DisplayLink Manager and going to the settings to select "Launch at Startup" resolved this issue as well.

+1 Same issue. External monitor shows "No signal" after multiple attempts at reboot/reinstallation.

Setup:

- Macbook Pro 2017
- Mac OS Catalina 10.15.3
- Monitor is a PXL 2780MW hooked up via HDMI to an HP Elite USB C Dock G4

I have tried installing the "DisplayLink USB Graphics Software for macOS" bundle release 5.2.1. The installation works fine and the driver shows as "loaded" in the system report. However, DisplayLink does not appear under System Preferences/Security & Privacy/Privacy/Screen Recording. I have tried rebooting, uninstalling and reinstalling, etc. to no avail.

Today I also tried installing the DisplayLink Manager version 0.2.42. The manager program runs fine, but it still does not ask for screen permissions and my monitor shows "No signal".

Hello,

I'd recommend checking with the manufacturer this is actually a product with DisplayLink technology.
When I look on HP website, I see no DisplayLink driver for this product
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-usb-c-docking-station/17032707/model/20092244.
The shape of the product rings a bell as alternate mode product I've evaluated myself. DisplayLink software only enables DisplayLink technology.

Kind regards,
Alban

Yesterday I was excited to receive my Duex Pro. I followed the Quick Start Guide and downloaded the DisplayLink driver. Since I was running Mojave and it would not download, I decided to update my MacBook Pro with Catalina. The driver then downloaded but the Duex Pro would not work. I will indicate below the steps I have taken to try and solve this issue:

-Installed the most recent version of DisplayLink: 05.25
-I have installed and uninstalled (multiple times) the Latest Driver, Beta Driver and even Legacy Drivers to see if any would work.
-I have rebooted before and after each of the above. And a few other times just for fun. :)
-I go through the steps to open System Preferences —> Security & Privacy —> Privacy —> Screen Recording, but there is nothing to the right to check.
-I added DisplayLink Manager to the Accessibility area, because I saw it in one of the forums. That did not work, nor did it give me the option of DisplayLinkUserAgent when I added it.
-I checked the forums and it said something about kexts? I don’t know what that is put the attached screenshot shows that it is ok.

Please help me! I was excited to find this monitor and very excited when it arrived. As an educator trying to teach from home during COVID-19, this is a very important tool in my day. Any assistance that you can provide would be much appreciated.

I'm facing the same issue: there's no DisplayLink checkbox showing up under Screenrecording Settings.

MacOS Catalina 10.15.4
DisplayLink Driver 5.2.48 (Loaded YES)

Hello,

Thank you for your patience.

If you are using Catalina could you please test our newest BETA driver (https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1552)?

Please remember to uninstall the older classic version.

Please let me know if you will be able to see screen recording options afterwards.

Best regards,
Jakub

Same issue: on a MacBookAir 2015, running Catalina 10.15.5, I just installed latest stable release 5.2.4.

Had no issues on installation, kernel extension is loaded. Received no prompt for screen recording, nothing pending approval on General System Preferences, and DisplayLinkUserAgent is not listed for Screen Recording.

Is there a way to add manually? Even tried a full permission reset for Screen Recordings (tccutil reset ScreenCapture) but no change.

Hardware is AOC E1659 - plugged in, blinks, but nothing else.

Hello,

If screen recording option is unavailable you have to make sure that your computer recognizes that DisplayLink powered device has been connected. There are usually two main scenarios where Screen Recording is unavailable - the device is not using DisplayLink technology or the device is not detected by the PC.
If DisplayLink device is not detected or visible under USB bus then no request for Screen Recording permission is made as no device is requesting it.

Make sure to check if your device is recognized and then if it shows DisplayLink in details of that device. You can do all that by following: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/618597-my-displaylink-device-does-not-work-at-all-when-co

When it comes to USB monitors if they just blink and go black ensure that it is connected via high power USB port or an external high power USB hub. It is worth checking on another PC if it has the same issue.

Thank you,
Katarzyna

Thanks - I just checked: monitor is recognized as DisplayLink, DisplayLinkUserAgent is running when I look in Activity Monitor, and USB power is ok. Unfortunately dont have another PC here to check.

Still receive no prompt for screen recording...
