Hi,

I ordered this adapter: StarTech.com USB 3.0 to Dual DisplayPort Adapter 4K 60Hz, DisplayLink Certified, Video Converter with External Graphics Card - Mac & PC (USB32DP24K60) https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07C69HG33/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It works pretty well and I have no complaint when using it for work.

However, I noticed when trying to play a game that there is a considerable latency. There is no FPS drop, I'm getting over 100FPS, but it still feels like there is maybe 500 millisecond delay from my mouse (which is connected directly to the laptop) and the image moving. It feels so close to 'playable' but it's not really.

Is it expected?

Config:

Windows 10 (Up to date)
Alienware M17 R4 (2021)
Nvidia RTX 3080 (Drivers are up to date)
i7-10870H (with Intel UHD 630)

I'm also using this adapter because i'm using HDMI 2.0 port. https://www.amazon.ca/Displayport-WAVLINK-Converter-DisplayPort-Projector/dp/B083NZJRLG/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=wavlink+dp+to+hdmi&qid=1621954701&sr=8-5

Monitor is an MSI MAG342CQRV

To some degree, it is expected. DisplayLink is mostly suitable for office work. While gaming, from my experience, is possible it depends on many factors.

Maybe try gaming in (borderless) windowed mode, if you are using fullscreen mode.

Thank you for the tips. The game was already in windowed/borderless mode. It looks just like fullscreen but it isn't. What are other factors?

The game output is butter smooth, it's only that it appears delayed by 500ms.

Would there be the same latency with this one ? https://www.amazon.ca/WAVLINK-Ethernet-DL6950-PD-Function-Supported/dp/B07TC1GC68/ref=sr_1_11?dchild=1&keywords=Wavlink+displaylink&qid=1622126554&sr=8-11

I'm using this one and it's okay, I can't tell if it's slightly low FPS or if it's latency, something feels a tiiiny bit off, but it's definitely workable and better than 500ms. At most I'd say it's maybe a 100ms latency or something like that. Definitely fine for office work, I haven't tried gaming on it
