can't close lid without laptop and displays powering off

I just did the update to 11.14 OS and then updated the driver for the Wav link WL-UG69DK7 and I changed the display settings to "never" in the Battery feature, to make sure the laptop does not shut off, however when I close the lid, the display of the laptop still shows in the display arrangement and the external displays show up for a moment and then black out and keeps intermittently popping back on. What setting am I missing?

I cannot be sure from your description, however if pressed to guess you are using a Mac with an Intel processor. If that is in fact the case, then closed display mode (also known as clamshell mode) is currently not supported --> https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1963276-clamshell-and-rotation-support-on-macos-big-sur-11
