Hello,

A new icon appeared in the menu bar of my Mac and when I click on it, I get the following message:

"DisplayLink Manager is capturing your screen."

What does this mean exactly and how do I turn it off/disable it?

The notification you describe cannot be disabled.

This thing is making me bonkers!

It flashes on and off repeatedly all day long and is incredibly distracting!

I really don't need to know what's going on in the background. They need to give us an option on how to disable it (or at least how to disable the constant flashing purple part, so I can focus).

This is also driving me bonkers. I cannot stand that it flashes on and off!

Can you give more details about your specific problem, maybe it's something else

I just created an account so I can post on this thread and also complain about this flashing icon, which is awful. It's clearly a bug. Can somebody at DisplayLink please fix this. Either the icon should be there all the time, or it should never be there. But its flashing on and off dozens of times a day is awful. I have a nice pause/play function in my menu bar that I use constantly, and now I make mistakes, as the DisplayLink icon pushes it over unexpectedly due to this bug.

Finally found a way to hide the damn thing! In sonoma if an app want to record your screen you got this annoying purple icon, but if the app is from apple, it won't show the purple icon even it is recording the screen. Yes it's sth only apple can do. So if you run displaylink manager from Terminal, which is an apple app, it won't trigger the purple damn thing at all. You can found the code to automate this process at every startup here: https://github.com/lwouis/alt-tab-macos/issues/2606#issuecomment-2351026226

Any updates about that? It's pretty annoying. I didn't update my macos version to the latest one maybe that will help?

I came to report this too & just replied to another thread where people are getting it with the main GUI with Elgato, but this sounds like what I'm getting

Hi all,
The problem you are describing is in fact the expected behaviour for the changes that have been introduced in macOS 14 Sonoma.
As @rboerner mentioned more details can be found here (https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/2007602-macos-sonoma-14-screen-sharing-picker-and-stop-sh)
