MacOS: Tahoe 26.4
Displaylink version 15.1.0

I recently updated my macOS and since then I cannot control the output on my external speakers. The dock and software see the speakers(PLUGGABLE AUDIO) and it does produce sound, but I cannot lower or raise the volume. I tried disabling in Privacy and Security settings and re-enabling, but that has not helped. Rebooting did not help. Unplugging and replugging has not helped. Trying uninstalling and reinstalling the DisplayLink Manager app but I am not sure this is going to correct the issue. Anyone else run into this issue and correct it?

Just to update everyone. I uninstalled DisplayLink Manager on my Macbook Pro, rebooted, and re-installed the app. All works now. If this was driving you crazy, please try this out. Hope it all works for you!

So I have an update. Uninstall and reinstall might be warranted, but it looks like if you undock device while powered on the external speakers will not work until you restart the MacBook while connected to the dock. Not sure if you undock and do not use again until docked again will work but you can try. I tend to use my laptop while not in my office almost daily. I have tried exiting the app and restarting it but that did not help either.

Anyone have any other ideas? If this was a Windows machine I would restart the service. Not sure if thats a thing on macOS nor how to do it.

Dear Users,

We've been flagging this problem to Apple since early betas of 26.4. Other USB audio devices are affected as well. Unfortunately, no resolution or timeline has been published so far.

As a temporary workaround could you please try to execute the following command in Terminal:
sudo killall coreaudiod

Thanks for posting can confirm this works and enables volume adjustment for external USB audio. This will do the job as temporary fix until apple get around to fixing it.

Using macOS 26.4.1, Dell D6000 docking station and Display Link Manager 16.

Some further information each time the Mac is disconnected and reconnected to the dock the command "sudo killall coreaudiod" will need to reapplied to enable sound control for external usb devices.

Is anyone aware of a method to automate this, for the command to be triggered when a dock is attached?

Could you guys test macOS 26.5 beta 4 and share feedback? Our internal tests of this beta shows promising results.
