Hi. I have the same problem. I have a Samsung S27D390 monitor connected to a Dell M3800 via iTec USB 3.0 docking station. The monitor screen randomly goes black for a second, but device is not disconecting so I don't have to move windows back. Problem doesn't exist while the monitor is connected directly by hdmi. Issue occurs both on windows 8.1 and ubuntu 16.04. I replaced my hdmi calbe with a shorter and better one (with filters) - no effect. The only gas lift chair in surroundings is that I am sitting in, but I've tried and it doesn't affect screen in any way.
Is there any solution to this issue?
