Hello tannum99,

Thank you for your patience.

We have been trying to reproduce the issue on similar setup that you are using but we do have few questions.

Could you record a short video or make few photos of your setup? We would like to see exactly how it is all connected.

Moreover, could you please test if the crashes happen so often if you would be using only monitors and ethernet? Could you test it without other devices connected, such as speakers/mouse etc.?

Did you notice any pattern when the issue occurs? Are you using maybe any specific application or the issue happens more often while doing something specific on your machine?
If you would like to contact by emails, please let me know.

Thank you for your feedback,

Best regards,
Jakub

Laptop to Dynadock : Type C to Type B
Astrotek USB-C 3.1 Type-C Male to USB 3.0 Type B Male Cable 1m

Have also tried USB-3 Type A to USB 3.0 Type B Male, same issue

Peripherals attached to Dynadock :
USB : Gigabyte G105 Keyboard
USB : Gigabyte wireless mouse GM-M7580
USB : Logitech Webcam 500
DVI : AOC AOC E2460 1920 x 1080 60 Hz
HDMI : ASUS VS247 1920 x 1080 60 Hz
Audio output : Standard Speakers
Ethernet not used

Moreover, could you please test if the crashes happen so often if you would be using only monitors and ethernet? Could you test it without other devices connected, such as speakers/mouse etc.?

All cables have been replaced at least once, no improvement
All peripherals work correctly when connected direct to computer

Did you notice any pattern when the issue occurs? Are you using maybe any specific application or the issue happens more often while doing something specific on your machine?

Issue is very bad when using a web browser on extended desktop
Any monitor, any browser, any website
MS Edge (Chrome based), Firefox, Chrome all same issue

For example. When typing this reply using extended desktop, multiple crashes
approx 10 crashes in 30 minutes
If I move the browser window to notebook screen, no crashes

But also occurs with other applications on the extended desktops
EG, Word, Outlook, Excel etc

My initial assumption was faulty Dynadock. Replaced with identical unit
So now have 2 with same issues
So obviously the Dynadocks are not faulty

Additional information maybe significant :

Notebook is "Leader" model SC787. 17in display
Notebook mainboard is Clevo N85_N87HCHNHZ

If you would like to contact by emails, please let me know.

Thank you for your feedback,

Best regards,
Jakub

Same Issue

1 Attachment(s)
I've been having the same issue with my Dell XPS 13 9300 and the Dell D3100 dock. I've got 2 HDMI monitors connected, a USB hub, ethernet and speakers. I've already updated all drivers for my laptop (BIOS, chipset, video drivers, USB-C drivers) and have the latest DisplayLink drivers installed.

For me the crash occurs just a few times per day but it seems to be when I am using Microsoft Teams for video calling that it happens more commonly.

I've attached the info from the latest crash which was just a few minutes ago.

Changing docking device

I've had enough of this. Patience has ran out !!!
Looking to a different docking device

https://au.targus.com/products/usb-3...ion-dock120auz

It is still based on DisplayLink

Will remove all previous software and drivers

Will use software downloaded from Targus

Interesting to see how it goes...

Similar issue

I am having similar issues with the 9.3 M2 release. It is intermittent, but at times I will be using my 3 displays connected via USB-C to my plugable, and I will loose my screens and the displaylink driver crashes. I did not experience this when running Windows 10 1803 with Displaylink 9.0 M1.

I recently upgraded to 1909, and when I did so, my screens didn't work, so naturally I installed 9.3 M2. My screens started working again, but I've been having issues ever since.

I just uninstalled 9.3 and reinstalled 9.0, It's going to take a few days to determine if this helps, but I figured it's worth a shot.

Targus USB 3.0 Dual Video Docking Station

I have now installed :

Targus USB 3.0 Dual Video Docking Station
Targus model DOCK120AUZ
https://au.targus.com/products/usb-3...ion-dock120auz

Using drivers downloaded from Targus

Driver version is 9.2.2335.0

Only a couple days but early indication is stable
This is a strong case to use manufacturer's drivers

I am not going to attempt to install any DisplayLink drivers

My opinion :

ALL MANUFACTURERS should fully test and release new drivers to suit Windows 10
At least Win10 ver 1909, even better ver 2004

Displaylink - Fully test new drivers in consultation with manufacturers, in Windows 10 ver 2004, BEFORE RELEASING DRIVERS FOR DOWNLOAD

Example. Driver for Toshiba DYNADOCK PA3927A-1PRP
Latest is ver 8.2 released June 2017 - Three years old !!
https://support.dynabook.com/support...ext=1200014770

Toshiba DYNADOCK PA3927A-1PRP clearly has issues with DisplayLink drivers, and Toshiba drivers VER 8.2 are too old

logik 06-05-2020 09:35 AM

Same problem here with the usermode driver crash. Setup:
  • Lenovo P1 laptop
  • Lenovo hybrid USB-C with USB-A dock
  • 2x Dell monitors
  • A small number of USB devices e.g. Logitech USB receiver, webcam
  • DisplayLink driver version 9.3 M2

On average I see a few crashes per day in Event Viewer. At first the USB mouse becomes unresponsive, a few seconds later the external screens reset. I have to disconnect and reconnect the dock to make it work. The most recent event was:

Code:

Problem signature:

P5: minkernel\wdf\framework\shared\object\fxverifierbugcheck.cpp:151(FxVerifierDriverReportedBugcheck)
P6: dlidusb3.dll
P7: 9, 3, 3324, 0
P8: 2.31.0
P9: (DumpedSeparately)
P10:

With event 10111:

Code:

The device ThinkPad Hybrid USB-C with USB-A Dock (location 0008.0000.0000.004.002.000.000.000.000) is offline due to a user-mode driver crash.  Windows will attempt to restart the device 5 more times.  Please contact the device manufacturer for more information about this problem.
I own a second Lenovo laptop which is regularly used with the same dock. I have never experienced a crash with this laptop, therefore it seems very likely to be a driver issue.

I have collected the system diagnostics information using the DisplayLink tool, is there an email address I can share this with?

Adding myself to the ever-growing list of people encountering this issue.

With a Lenovo X1 extreme laptop, a Lenovo hybrid USB-C with USB-A dock, and 2 HDMI screens.

I tried using the Toshiba 8.2 drivers as somebody suggested, but they fail to properly recognize one of my screen, which ends up displaying a weird (and unusable) resolution.

Is there anything I could do to speed up the resolution of this issue?

tannum99 06-30-2020 05:11 PM

KevinG you misunderstood the suggestion about Toshiba driver.
I have a TOSHIBA dock device and downloaded drivers from TOSHIBA website.
For a TARGUS dock, download from TARGUS website.
The meaning of the suggestion is to go to YOUR DOCK manufacturer's website and find the appropriate drivers.
In your case go to LENOVO website and find the LENOVO drivers for your dock.

KevinG 07-01-2020 09:05 AM

I see. Unfortunately the Lenovo drivers have the same stability issue (I was actually using them, then moved to other drivers in hope to fix the problem).

I switched the dock to USB-A connection instead of USB-C. Working well so far, fingers crossed.

DonK 07-22-2020 11:32 PM

Like many others, I have periods of cosntinuous crashing. The crashing appears to come in clusters, that is, several hours can pas with no problem, then for periods of 15 or 20 minutes the crashing occurs. Each crash is preceded by the Logitec USB wireless mouse freezing and the a couple of seconds later the ASUS MB169B+ USB monitor goes black and then restarts, then every minute or so the cycle repeats itself.

Dear users,

Thank you for reaching out to us here on this thread.

We have analyzed the logs that were here but unfortunately we were unable to reproduce the issue so we need your help in reaching to the core of the problem.

If you are experiencing this issue, please gather log files by following the third link in my signature and along with the issue description please send them on our email address: technical_enquiries@displaylink.com

This will allow us to treat each case separately as the root cause will be different due to the setup differences.

Thank you for your actions.

Best regards,

i got the same issue mentioned as a lot of users in this thread as well..

2 different laptops / corporate and private one - ofc fully up 2 date wr to drivers and firmware...with both beta and stable drivers i experience disconnects and crashes and also audio pops (eg when i open an app / specific browser / the audio ticks).

sent the logs and info ofc already with email.

Unfortunately the issues did return, but not as bad.
After much discussion with notebook and dock manufacturers support people, I have basically given up.

Best workaround for me :
Connect external monitors direct to the notebook, not via the dock.
In my case my notebook has HDMI and D-Sub ports. Using those for 2 x external monitors, zero crashes for a long time.
So basically using the dock as a glorified USB hub with sound.
Obviously only a workaround, not a solution.

Best guess (only a guess) seems to be a compatibility issue with certain notebook mainboards and DisplayLink chips, or a fault with DisplayLink chips

I am hoping manufacturers are reading this thread and working on it. Personally I am watching for manufacturers Targus and/or Toshiba to release updated drivers/firmware for their products to address this issue

TOSHIBA DYNADOCK PA3927A-1PRP latest driver ver 8.2 June 2017
https://support.dynabook.com/support...ext=1200014770

TARGUS DOCK120AUZ latest driver ver 9.1 April 2019
https://www.targus.com/form/download...sku=DOCK120AUZ

I have lost all faith in DisplayLink drivers.
Meantime using the above workaround with no issues ..........

JakubDabrowski 08-17-2020 12:43 PM

Hello tannum99,

May you please provide me with more details on this issue that you are experiencing on the Targus dock?

As I believe it has been working without issues for some 3 months? Did you change anything in the configuration? Or maybe you have run some updates?

Please follow the 3rd link in my signature and gather log files from the Targus dock.

Thank you for any additional information that you may share.

Best regards,
Jakub

Issue still ongoing ... any updates?

hi folks,

We're seeing the same issue using HP equipment (0000's of devices). In particular -> https://www.displaylink.org/forum/sh...7&postcount=19

Has anyone had any 'luck' with this?

- Drivers/firmware are all up-to-date, using latest DisplayLink (9.4.x)
- Issue occurs on multiple devices, so not a faulty unit
- Issue comes in 'waves' (nothing ... then several times)

I see the event ID errors as others do.

Issue is "worse" when using a Logitech BRIO camera (again, we have many of these - all are affected, and the firmware is up-to-date) during conf calls (Teams for example).

Seems to be when the docking station is 'pushed' that something fails, and it crashes/reboots.

Obviously YOU ARE NOT READING MY PREVIOUS POST. See my most recent post (08-06-2020, 04:56 AM). I am using the workaround as described :
Remove monitors from the dock. Connect monitors to HDMI and D-Sub ports on the laptop
ZERO CRASHES !!!
So the dock is now a glorified USB hub, with sound.

Update. I have tried driver version 9.4 M0. Still same issue

Multiple people have updated log files. You have plenty to work with. I am not going to upload any further log files.

Displaylink. Please get serious with this long running issue.

Dock Manufacturers. Please release new drivers for your products

JakubDabrowski 08-27-2020 11:48 AM

Hello,

We currently have one person engaged with us to understand their issue we don't have in-house reproduction of. The error you are seeing is by design of Windows to report errors via telemetry, so Microsoft can locate issues in their ecosystem and request vendors to look into them if they exceed their threshold. This error is generic conclusion.
The different driver versions issued since this thread started have resolved a number of cases, users confirmed to us. We are keen to address what is left, but without data or reproduction, we will not know if we are making a difference to your case.

You can choose not to provide information of your last case, and in that case, we can only give a generic advice without any idea if it is relevant to you.
That generic advice is to try and disable USB3 link power management as follows:

Disable U1/U2

Please disable USB LPM by following the steps from the link below:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/108194-add-usb-3-link-power-management-power-options-windows.html

When the option is visible, please set it to off.
Do not remove it however, the option has to be visible and only set to disable.

Let me know if the issue persists.

Alternatively, if you want your particular case to be looked into, we need your particular details. Here is how to give us these details:
  • Download the Windows DisplayLink Support Tool
  • Run the tool as administrator.
  • Ensure the DisplayLink adapter is connected to your PC.
  • Click on the "Advanced Options".
  • Check the "On" radio button under "Advanced DisplayLink Logging".
  • Exit the tool
  • Disconnect and reconnect the docking station
  • Use the computer normally until the issue takes place. When it happens do not disconnect/reconnect anything, run the tool as administrator again and click on "Gather Support Information" to collect the system information that DisplayLink requires.
  • The system information may take up to a few minutes to gather. You will be prompted once it is complete.
  • Run again the tool and choose "Turn Off" button under "Advanced DisplayLink Logging" and close the tool. This will ensure the logs don’t keep growing unnecessarily.
  • Please share the file with us. The zip file of information will be saved on your Windows desktop in a folder called “DisplayLink Support Files”.

Thank you for your time and further feedback.

Kind regards,
Jakub

msing539 09-28-2020 03:41 PM

  • DisplayLink 10.0 M0 | 23 Sep 2020 (Issue also present in 9.4 M0 and 9.3 M2)
  • Windows 10 Pro x64 1909
  • Gigabyte Aero 15 X9 i9 8950HK 32GB
  • Plugable UD-6950H USB 3.0 Dual 4K Dock
  • Connected to the dock are (2) MSI MAG341CQ monitors at 1440 60Hz and Ethernet (Nothing else)
  • Connected via USB C 5 Gbps but happens even when connected to 3.1 Gen 2 Type A on either side of the laptop
  • Removed/reinstalled Host Controller, all USBs, DisplayLink Cleaner, etc.
  • Changed all HID/USBs to not power save, disabled Selective Suspend, turned USB 3 Link Power Management Off

Like many people, my dock also disconnects with an offline due to a user-mode driver crash in Event Viewer. When this happens, all external monitors black out and it attempts to reconnect 5 times before failing. Happens when screen sharing on Zoom, Skype, MS Teams--all of them. Also happens when multiple videos are playing at once on both external screens simultaneously.

I've noticed this also happens when the power draw on the dock is higher than supported--like if I attempt to charge a device through it (which is not supported by the dock). But if I plug a battery bank to charge, my SpeedTest will drop from 475 Mbps to 150 Mbps before the monitors black out and the driver crashes.

Could there be an issue with the DisplayLink driver unable to handle too much data/bandwidth at once?

scugulu 10-06-2020 11:20 AM

Same problem....

1 Attachment(s)
Hello,
I work for a company in Switzerland, we mostly use computers from HP (HP X360 models) with HP Docking station (HP Universal Docking G1 and HP Universal Docking G2).

A few weeks ago we started having this problem, like the docking was disconnected and reconnect again on the computer, after a screen Freeze & screen flickering, on the Event viewer there is allways this error :

The device HP USB-C Universal Docking Station (location 0039.0000.0000.001.002.000.000.000.000) is offline due to a user-mode driver crash. Windows will attempt to restart the device 5 more times. Please contact the device manufacturer for more information about this problem.

It can happen a few times per hour and it's very annoying.

We have 3 Windows 10 Build for the moment :

Windows build 1607 => No problem for the moment (DL Version : 9.3.3015.0).
Windows build 1803 => No problem for the moment (DL Version : 9.3.3015.0).
Windows build 1909 => The problem is present when we use the HP USB-C/A Universal Docking G2 with this laptop model HP Elitebook X360 1030 G2 and with 2 screens plug on the DisplayPort of the docking (DL Version : 9.3.3324.0 and 10.0.82.0)

As you requested before, there are the logs files from your tool, i also found out this problem can be produced by the Intel Video Driver, so i am trying an older version to see if the problem is present.

If some one as a solution it would be great, i am available for more information if needed.

Thank you in advance and have a nice day

msing539 10-06-2020 11:30 AM

Hello, I experienced this on a Pluggable dock and Gigabyte machine. Across the Internet, people seem to have the exact same issue with different machines, docks, and different versions of DisplayLink. This made me think that it was related to the 1909 version and DisplayLink drivers.

In my case, it seems to be when the data or power pull on the dock is too high. Like if I'm trying to push multiple videos or full-screen Zoom sharing. You could try lowering the refresh rate on the monitors connected to your dock.

Ultimately, I replaced the dock with the Anker PowerExpand 13 in 1 USB-C that does not require drivers and have not had an issue since.

JakubDabrowski 10-12-2020 09:03 AM

Hello scugulu,

Thank you for your detailed description of your issue.

We have started to analyze the issue already but I would like to ask you for a few things.

Firstly, would it be possible to contact us directly on our email address: technical_enquiries@displaylink.com ? Thanks to it we will be able to correspond faster and together analyze this case.

Secondly did you try disabling U1/U2 ? If not, you may find the guide to do it in my previous post in this thread.

Lastly, if possible, please disable ASPM by following this guide.

With the above information please contact me on a previously mentioned email address.

Thank you for your time and actions.

Kind regards,
Jakub

scugulu 10-12-2020 09:11 AM

Update

Hello,
Quick update after your message, I already tried to disable the U1/U2 setting, and nothing as changed.

With my HP USB-C/A Universal Docking G2 there is a small adapter to convert USB-C to A and with this one the problem doesn't come, the only problem i have with that is the laptop doesn't charge anymore and i need 1 additional adapter.

I am also testing it with HDMI connector (on USB-C with a Dell Screen) and it didn't crash until now, so it looks like it's related to the USB-C port and maybe related to the Displayport ?

Regards

Same issue... when company updated Windows 10

My Targus docking station was working fine for a few years... but then my corporation pushed out a new version of Windows 10. Since then, I've had the same issues as everyone else in this thread. I'm not sure which version I was on before, but current version is 1809.

QGeeM DL6902

Just purchased QGeeM DL6902 Universal USB Docking Station. Installed/re-installed latest Windows 10 drivers from the DisplayLink website, adjusted various USB power settings, yada yada yada. No Joy. Whenever window is moved to 2nd monitor, a Critical Error Event ID 10111 shows up in the Windows 10 System Log .. retries 5 times and kicks the device out of the config.

The device QGeeM-USB3.0 Ultra Docking station (location 0000.0014.0000.013.003.000.000.000.000) is offline due to a user-mode device crash. Windows will no longer attempt to restart this device because the maximum restart limit has been reached. Disconnecting the device and reconnecting it, or disabling it and re-enabling it from the device manager, will reset this limit and allow the device to be accessed again. Please contact the device manufacturer for more information about this problem.

Sent detailed support logs via Zip file.

Any further suggestions to try?

Problem solve with Bios setting

Hello,
Finally, I was able to solve this problem on our laptops.

With the latest Bios version of the HP Elitebook x360 1030 G2 they added a new option :
Enable High Resolution mode when connected to a USB-C DP alt mode dock
By default, this option is enabled, i disabled it on the computer With the problem and did a Full Reset of the laptop (Hold power button for 20 seconds), after that the problem didn't come until now. It seems to be solved.

I also tried to enable it on another laptop who didn't have this problem before and I started to have these issues also on it, after I did the same manipulation (disable the option + reset the laptop) the problem didn't come.

I Hope it's simply that but for the moment it looks like.

Have a nice day

That option forces the dock USB features to USB2 so you should have much better performance generally speaking as well.

What's the status on this issue? Can you post any updates? I just bought a $300 dock for XPS 15 9550 which is essentially a brick because DisplayLink drivers crash quite literally every 5 minutes. None of the workarounds listed in this thread seem to do anything and the lack of urgency is really baffling considering that this issue has been around for over a year now.

Just tried the 10.1 M0 driver and the issue is only partially resolved, using a Dell Latitude 7420 and an hp universal dock I no longer get the user-mode driver crash but the attached monitors now flash and cause the laptop to hang during each change of state.

Seems to be the same issue but without the user-mode driver crash happening/being listed in event viewer, can't seem to find any issues appearing in event viewer whilst this is going on.

Using the V10 driver I was seeing the same as @pcmasterrace - I was still getting the resets but nothing being logged.

That was, until yesterday afternoon when I had the crash of the device and 10110 and 10111 errors logged in the event viewer.

HP Spectre x360 and Plugable UD-ULTC4K dock.
