Mojave - OS X 10.14.4 & DisplayLink 5.1 - Mirrors - BUT NO EXTEND

Hi all.

OS X 10.14.4 & DisplayLink 5.1, the 3rd monitor mirrors the second. But will not extend.

Any ideas? Anyone else having the same issue, or found a solution?

Same problem here, running MacBook Air 13-inch, early 2015 …*MacOS 10.14.4, DisplayLink 5.1 give me a mirror-only second monitor.

Not good is it... Please can you resolve this DisplayLink?

macOS 10.14.4 mirror madness

Tried this on macOS 10.14.4, with both the 5.0.1 and 5.1 drivers, got the same issue.

Strangely, it's not *quite* as simple as the displays being mirrored - the mouse pointer still only appears on one monitor, and moves between the two monitors like they are separate displays, but the two monitors show the same thing otherwise. Really odd things happen when you bring up the display preferences, too!

*edit* - If there's anything that you'd like me to test/try out, please let me know, will be happy to help out.

Could you download our Support Tool (https://support.displaylink.com/know...to-displaylink), run it and in the menu change Log Verbosity to Debug (in "Advanced" menu), then Collect logs (after reproducing the problem of course) and attach here?

Thanks
Michal

Support tool output attached.

This procedure didn't change anything either: https://www.displaylink.org/forum/sh...72&postcount=1

I'm having the same issue with a 2015 MacBook with MacOS 10.14.4 and DisplayLink drivers 5.1.1
I get two displays which are mirror of each other with my MacBook display as a second.

Here is my log:

Has anyone tried the new 5.1.1 with Mojave 10.14.4 or later? I don't want to be the test subject!!

I'm on 10.4.4 with 5.1.1 on 13 Inch 2015 Macbook Air. It doesn't work for me, it mirrors but doesn't extend. As mentioned earlier you can move your cursor over but everything else is still mirrored.

I'd be interested to know if the latest DisplayLink for Mac on 10.4.4 works for anyone at all?

If not, this should be top priority to get fixed. Not being able to have a second monitor is standing in the way of my productivity and I imagine countless businesses rely on this.

SuperNova 04-24-2019 12:38 PM

I just tried the 5.0.1 driver with 10.14.4 and it works for me - the display is successfully extended over two monitors.

@wrbluepearl - You mentioned that you tried 5.0.1 with no success? Try running the uninstaller for 5.1(.1) first, reboot, reinstall 5.0.1, then reboot?

I'm going to stick with 5.0.1 for now, I'm not going to install anything else until it's confirmed fixed.

HolierEagle 04-26-2019 01:32 AM

Tried 5.0.1-- not working

I tried Driver 5.0.1 by uninstalling 5.1.1 first and then installing the new one (with reboots) but the exact same problem presists

That was the procedure I'd tried (sorry, been away from work for two weeks); have not tried the 5.1.1 driver yet (installing that now). It was more restarts in a day than I normally do in six months! :)

So, I've now tried the 5.1.1 driver, and no luck - same weird behavior. I've attached the dump from the support tool.

Is there any update on the state of this issue?

jisleyjr 05-11-2019 03:53 PM

I have a Mid 2015 10.14.4 that i use for work with 5.0 drivers installed and had no issues with my DisplayLink dock at home.
But I was having issues with getting external monitors to work on a newly acquired Mid 2015 Pro, 10.14.4. 5.1 drivers didn't work, uninstalled 5.1, tried installing 5.0.1 still no luck.

I then plugged in an HDMI cable from Mac to a monitor and that worked (just the one). I went into Arrangement tab to see if other monitors (from DisplayLink) showed up. Still nothing. Then i unplugged the USB 3.0 (to DisplayLink hub, HDMI still plugged in) and plugged back in and then all of a sudden the Arrangement tab showed 3 external monitors (Hdmi, 2 hooked up to DisplayLink). Unplugging HDMI got me down to just the 2 externals. Unplugging and plugging in the USB cable will bring back the monitors like i'd expect.

I am not sure what plugging in the HDMI did, but seemed to kick something into gear and i don't plan on updating to 5.1.

Uninstalled Duet drivers, and...

So, this is interesting. I remembered that I'd installed Duet Display so that I could use my iPad as a second monitor last fall. For laughs, I uninstalled the Duet Display drivers *and* the DisplayLink drivers, disconnected the DisplayLink adaptor, restarted, then re-installed DisplayLink 5.1.1 drivers. Restarted again, plugged in the DisplayLink monitor, and...

Lo and behold, the DisplayLink monitor works correctly now! Not sure if this is a "just me" fix (the sequence of steps/troubleshooting only applies to my situation) or if this is something that might apply to others. Also, I haven't extensively tested it (i.e., haven't unplugged the monitor and plugged it back in, rebooted the laptop, etc.) but it appears there may be hope.

I'm using a Diamond Multimedia USB3 to DisplayPort adaptor with a DisplayLink DL-5500 chipset in it.

Same issue here. I chatted with ASUS staffs three times, but it has not still resolved... My external monitor seems like receiving a signal, but it's still a black screen. Does anyone have a solution for this issue? This is really inconvenience...

DVI Port is the problem.

My Displaylink has 1 DVI, and 1 HDMI. If I only used the HDMI everything is fine, but once I connect the DVI, things get flaky. The DVI extends on top of one of the HDMI screens.

gabrieldro 06-27-2019 09:44 PM

For now is working my extended screen

It is working for now for me,

I have Mojave with Samsungs Monitors.

Go to System Preference => Security and Privacy
Under the tab Privacy find Accessibility

You will see the display link app, Remove the Display link app and reboot the computer. You can edit unlocking it with your login credentials.

That app was to use it for the Airplay, which now is no longer needed with the DisplayLink 5.1.1 version.

Hope this help.:D

What you describe is a DisplayPort MST setup, also referred to as daisy chaining. macOS does not support DisplayPort MST setups with multiple displays. That is why both displays in the chain are mirrored. To put that another way, the behavior you are seeing is the result of an operating system limitation.

Oh Ok thanks for letting me know. Guess that will not be fixed from Apple.

Cheers
