NVIDIA DRIVERS and Displaylink
I've been chasing this problem all day and found a solution, so I'm posting it. Displaylink had been working great (Win 7 Home Prem) until I installed a NVIDIA FX3800, an older GPU, but with the latest drivers 310.70. I thought all was well, but then started noticing that when closing Internet explorer or Live Mail, the Desktop Windows Manager would crash. And then I noticed the DWM would crash on reboot. I did all the narrowing down of conflicts using msconfig, etc. and narrowed it to the Displaylink driver. If it was on, DWM would crash. Off, all was well. I tried all versions of the Displaylink drivers going back to 5.6 and on. Nothing helped. Then I found a post on a two year old NVIDIA discussion about newer NVIDIA drivers conflicting with Displaylink. They recommended rolling back the NVIDIA drivers to version 258.96. I was a little concerned because Pro Tools recommended having the most recent NVIDIA drivers. But I uninstalled the 310.70 drivers and installed the 258.96 drivers and all is well. No conflicts. Conclusion: work needs to be done on someones side to resolve the conflicts. Cheers!

Thanks for this message; I also have this problem and using the latest NVIDIA drivers (for my Quadro NVS 3100M). I'll give this a try and report back. I do also hate rolling back drivers, though.
ETA: I'm using a StarTech USB32HDDVII on a USB 2.0 port on Win 7 Ultimate x64. |
Hi,
We're actively working on this issue with the v310.70 drivers. Thanks, James |

Any clue when the fix should arrive? |
Current driver (7.1) incomaptible to Geforce driver 310.90?
Hello,
at the weekend i tried to install the newest driver for my Geforce GTX 460, the 310.90. While installing it i got an error message and since then i got the crash-report "Desktopwindow managmet doesnt work anymore" after every startup of Windows 7 (x64). Even a clean install of the geforce driver didnt worked, the Samsung U70 USB-montior still worked. But cause i couldnt get rid of the crash report, i reinstalled Windows 7. On this clean system i installed the 310.90 gpu driver(no errors) and the 7.1 Displaylink driver. But my U70 stays dark and only the the blue status LED keeps flashing. Is there a compatibility problem with the new 310.90 driver from Nvidia? PS: Seems like a MOD did some work ^^ and put my post in this thread. |
Seem to having same type of issue. Have new Dell S2340T Touch screen with custom build pc with Asus Rampage III with 24gb ram. Had Nvidia 570 but after loading Win 8 and the new monitor....system unstable and went south on me....keep getting Explorer crash on exit...then said kernal driver on nvidia crased....cant get to win 8 now. Thought it was video card going bad.....had new Nvidia 650ti installed with newest nvidia drivers...then downloaded YOUR latest driver for display link. No luck. nada.
When are you expecting to put out this new driver.....cant use this new monitor at all....whats up with this. Going to contact Dell and warn them that Win 8 and their stuff is IFFY. |
Driver issue also
Just bought a new Alienware M18x with Nvidia GeForce GTX 675M. Same issues with driver. Hoping this forum gets updated when new driver is released? Any ETA yet?

DisplayLink and Win 8 are not working together. |
There will be a new release very shortly (7.1M1) which fixes an issue we found with NVidia. Please tell us if you still have a problem then.
|
Any update on this issue? I've had the same problems as described above, so I'm just using the stock driver that comes with my laptop.
Another thing - NVIDIA just released v310.90 - Ideally I'd like to install this. Will the software fix for 310.70 be compatible with 310.90?? http://www.geforce.com/drivers/resul...5/nvidiaupdate Thanks in advance. |

The only thing I did differently was a fresh install of Windows 7. Potential Solution? |
This was posted in another forum. Can some try this and see if it works?
his is the only way I can get it to work with NVIDIA 680 SLIs Turn OFF the USB monitor Enable your surround group in NVIDIA properties Install the latest displaylink software TURN ON your USB monitor and go INTO Windows desktop properties to enable the usb moniotr NO nvidia control panel Second part So when you enable the USBM mointor the surround group stops and the 2 side monitors black out? If so can you then go back into WINDOWS - desktop properties and change the screen res to 5760x1200 of the surround group monitor? I am at work and will not be able to get to try this until this evening. |

Do their "support" ever respond when you submit problems/questions?
|
Eta
Is there an idea of when the new drivers are coming out?

7.1 M1, which should fix this, will be at the end of January.

Driver Problem
Hi,
same problem here. As soon as I have installed the M0 driver, it overrides the Nvidia-settings in the Control Panel. Firefox and IE crashes. I also use a Dynadock which seemed to work. Good to here there's a fix at the end of january. Cheers Olli |
ITs nearing the end of january, how is the work at the new driver going on ?

Will be fixed in 7.1 M1 which is very close to release. Merging to the other thread discussing this.

I am having a problem kinda like this and not sure if its related. I am on a laptop with both an Intel and Nvidia graphics card. I am getting random DWM crashes (which does a number on google chrome) and if my monitors sleep I get this when I wake them:
Display driver igfx stopped responding and has successfully recovered. |
Well, it's the end of January..... no new driver on the download page..... no replies to support tickets..... no replies to pm's.
|
Hoping for the driver release soon here as well, want to upgrade to the latest NVIDIA driver permanently!
|
Need the new Driver urgently for my UM-80T ...
|
Today is Feburary 1st, but the new driver is still not released...
|
It's released now. There were some last minute issues that needed fixing (eg the Chome issue in a separate thread). End of Jan was a guess at when the release would be out. If you're going to flame us if release dates slip by a few days then we won't give any schedule (take the Apple approach).
Can be downloaded from our website. Thanks Wim |
Hey what are you thinking? This is the internet, people are allways bitching arround. Cause everybody is anonym here, they cannot see you and you cannot see them, this way they loose every respect ;)
Thx for the driver, atm it still doesnt work for me... ill have to do some more test tomorrow, cause i only installed it and pluged my U70 in |

New Driver has fixed my problem. No crashes. But the Nvidia Control Panel still only shows two options when the Display Link Driver is installed.
|
Driver did not fix my problem. I remain unable to play XCOM on my external monitor. The game immediately freezes, almost locking up the computer. I didn't change anything except the update from the old displaylink driver to the new one.
I reloaded the driver that was sent on CD with the Targus Superspeed USB 3.0 docking port, and it's working again perfectly. The driver, according to what's printed on the top of the CD, is version 6.3M0 I tried to use 6.3M1 before, and that one didn't work either. Hopefully, that's enough to narrow down what change might be causing this issue. It's too bad that I can't load the latest Nvidia drivers on this gaming laptop unless I give up the multi-monitor support through through the docking port. |
Same for me, tried a clean install but still 310.90 with 7.1M1 -> Not working!
PS: OOK MY FAULT! Somehow my USB3.0 Ports are not working will see if it is the wrong driver or if I even forgot to install the driver for the controller ^^ |
I am trying to resolve some errors I am having with my Nvidia 3800m video card in my Dell laptop and my DisplayLink monitor. I downloaded an installed the new driver from DisplayLink v7.1 M1. But, windows device manager still shows the current driver version as 7.0.41409. I re-ran the exe for v7.1 and it states that my driver is up to date. Does the update not apply to my particular displaylink module or something? It is the adapter shown at the link below which I appears to be Display Adapter (0360).

Driver didnt install
I tried to install the latest driver 7.1 on my Win7 64 bit. It installs, but when I plug in my Displaylink it says it driver is 7.0.41409.0 from 9/4/12. When I try and update it, it says that the latest driver is installed. Help please? Thanks, John
