Configurations issue
I have installed the driver on my Windows 7 laptop and both laptop as well as the iPad are connected to the same wireless network. But i am not able to see the laptop name displayed on my iPad app.
What may i be doing wrong? |
Same problem with Vista
I'm experiencing the same problem with Vista. I restarted my laptop to see if that would correct the problem and noticed that the DisplayLink icon was gone from the icon tray.
|
Thank you for your feedback.
Please uninstall the software by following the instructions in this FAQ, re-install the software and make sure both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Please let me know if the issue still persists. Regards |
I'm still having the same problem. I followed the steps in the FAQ then installed the iPad Host Software Driver. The symptoms are 1) My iPad is not able to see my PC, 2) The Display link icon disappears from the tray after rebooting my PC.
I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. The iPad and PC are on the same Wifi network. Any other ideas? |
Please download the Windows DisplayLink debug tool from this website, then gather the system information and upload the zip file to this thread [delete memory.dmp file if the zip file is too large to upload]. This would give us more information as to what might be wrong.

Windows 7 defaults to hiding most icons, have you told windows 7 to show the icon, and notifications? How is your network configured? What firewall are you running? |
I've checked that the DisplayLink icon is not being hidden by Windows.
I have a Wifi network. Both PC and iPad are configured using DHCP. All other network software is working. I'm using the Window firewall. When I disable the firewall the PC is visible in the iPad app. The tray icon is still not appearing. When I enter a password it always says Password error. I've uploaded the output from the debug tool using the 'Ask a Question' support form. I look forward to your response. |
For password are you creating a simple password like say graysky? And are you entering the same password in both applications?
My laptop is a member of a "home group" is yours? It sounds like our computers are running the same applications... Your firewall is blocking NetBIOS port 139TCP, would be my guess as to why the name is not showing, when windows firewall is running. I just installed Windows 7 last month, my Windows 7 is still mostly default settings. Do you have a good network scanner for your iPad? |

Hmmm, new day and now I am also seeing some of this. I can see my laptops name in displaylink on the iPad. However I can not connect to it, getting an error message about a bad password. And my display link icon on the PC has disappeared from the tray.

Running the uninstall tool, and reinstalling now seems to only last for a limited time. Once the icon is gone from the tray area, I can no longer log in. Hope this is useful |

I cannot set my password since I cannot see the DisplayLink icon despite having the software installed as per your previous post (#3). I have a single wireless router which is used by my PC and iPad. |
Interesting I did nothing to the software, (did not uninstall, and reinstall) and this morning it works once again (well worked once). Same password it would not accept yesterday it accepts today, (I did not get prompted to enter it again.) Nor did I reboot my computer this morning. I just now re-checked and once again the icon is gone on the PC and I am once again prompted for the password.

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback on our app. There is an article in our knowledgebase explaining how to restore the DisplayLink icon in the system tray. Please visit this website.

At first my system seem to run very good, then I noticed that it would fail at about an hour of use. Later the DisplayLink icon would disappear.
I've been playing with my system and I believe that changing the name of my iPad has improved it. At first my iPad had an Apostrophe >'< in it's name and a space. I edited it's name and changed it to just iPad removing the Apostrophe >'< and the space. This seems to improve the stability of my system. It does not fix all problems, by any means. But I can now once again connect multiple times without a need to restart DisplayLinkUI.exe. |
Thanks for the fix for the DisplayLink icon. I have set a password and now my iPad connects. My PC then says it needs to reboot. Now everytime my PC boots I see a blue screen with the message 'BAD_HEADER_POOL'.
|
Dav1d - I have also changed my iPad's name to the one including an apostrophe and a space and seen no difference in between using the DisplayLink app now and before, though I'm glad it improved the stability of your system. With regard to the app crashing after about an hour of use, we are aware of it and this issue has been discussed in this post.
Goofy - please go to C:\Windows\Minidump\ , compress the files that are in Minidump folder and upload the zip file to this thread for analysis. Regards Pawel |

Pawel, I have attached the minidump files.

Please update your primary graphics driver and see if the problem continues.
Pawel |
I have been using the latest graphic driver for my Lenovo T500. The blue screen still occurs.
I've noticed that someone else has had a similar problem with DisplayLink software running on a T500 (see http://www.displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?t=575) |
The BSOD you're getting is caused by Win Vista drivers being installed on Win 7. I'm pretty sure its a graphics driver that needs to be updated as we closely interact with it, although it may be worth checking if all other drivers are up to date Win 7 drivers.
Also, please download the Windows DisplayLink debug tool from the website below, then gather the system information and send the zip file to us. (delete the memory.dmp file if the zip file is too large to upload). This would give us more information as to what might be wrong. http://www.displaylink.com/support/ticket.php?id=269 Thanks |
I've tried everything mentioned here. None of it works in Windows 7, making this iPad app a complete throw away at this point.
I have installed, uninstalled, set up Windows Firewall, and gone through all of your support posts (including your command like stuff to get the tray icon back). NONE OF IT WORKS. NONE OF IT. And I am sure you are fully aware of the fact. Without the damn tray icon, how the hell are you supposed to set a password? Without the password, you can't set up yout iPad with the computer for the first time. If you can't do that, then DisplayLink isn't much good, is it? If this has been an issue for paying customers since January, then why hasn't it been FIXED? I work for as a writer for a couple of iOS sites and a podcast, and your iPad app and this shoddy support will be a topic of a rant very soon if you don't get me and others a real fix for this issue. If you can't fix the issue, then you need to at least man up and pull your stated support for Windows 7 off of your site. You are blatantly misrepresenting your product at the present time. |
