Severe screen flashing on 7.4M0
Hi,
Since installing 7.4M0, my second screen has been flashing black, as well as going blurry all the time. I have a laptop + 2nd monitor plugged into a Toshiba dynadock U3.0. I did a clean install for 7.4 driver. This setup was not flashing on 7.3, but I was having consistent network dropouts on 7.3 so that's why I updated. As far as I can tell the network is better, but screen flashing is very bad. Any thoughts? |
Hi,
Please attach the logs from this tool: http://www.displaylink.com/support/ticket.php?id=269 Thanks, James |

Log attached.
No issues when I ran compatibility check. Luke |
Also the network issue is still happening - consistent dropouts throughout the day.
If I use the wifi instead of the dock's connection, there are no dropouts at all. |
Hi,
Thanks for the info - I've raised this internally for further investigation. Are the ethernet dropouts random or do they occur after a specific event? Thanks, James |
The dropouts seem random, happens probably 10 times day that I notice, could happen more often.
Another odd thing I noticed is that my second monitor does not 'sleep' any more when I remove my laptop overnight. It used to go to sleep after the laptop was disconnected. |
Any progress here?
The network dropouts are as bad if not worse than they were on the previous driver. Really is a borderline unusable piece of equipment. |
Agree....one issue after another. I just updated to 7.4 yesterday. Today....one screen "dimmed" to almost black and went super blocky every time I was dragging and dropping email within my outlook. Also....Internet Explorer no longer works, LMAO. I can open it....hit control-o and type in an address to go to and then it just sits there. It doesn't go unresponsive, but you can no longer click anything in I.E. If I undock, I can use I.E like normal. GREAT UPDATE guys!! First, and most importantly LAST displaylink device I have in my office environment. I couldn't imaging my users dealing with this garbage.

Hi,
To help us investigate the issue with IE, please download this tool: http://www.displaylink.com/support/ticket.php?id=269 As soon as the issue with IE is seen again, please run the tool and select "Gather Support Information". It's also worth trying the "System Compatibility Check" to see if anything is flagged up. Thanks, James |
Hi,
Regarding the issue with flickering - I've reproduced this myself but I don't have clear steps to reproduce. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. Do any of you guys have a set of steps to reliably show the flickering every time? Thanks, James |
Generally for me it happens when using the internet.
Bigger problem for me is the disconnection issues. The dock will lose connectivity consistently throughout the day. We use a number of cloud services so this is a big problem. I can get around this by using the wifi instead of the dock, but then why did I pay for a dock if this is the solution? |
Hi,
The support files tell us that there are usb connection errors which will cause the ethernet connection to drop. Can you check if you have the latest hub firmware programmed? Open up device manager, open up Universal Serial Bus controllers and right click on the entry called “Generic SuperSpeed USB Hub”. Select “Properties”, select “Details”, change “Property” to “Hardware Ids” and the REV_xxxx value will tell you what version of firmware is programmed on the hub. Let me know what revision is reported. I'd also suggest trying another USB cable & other USB ports. It's also worth trying the "System Compatibility Check" option in the DisplayLink debug tool to see if anything is flagged up. Thanks, James |
I have since uninstalled and gone back to the previous version. I am unable to provide YOUR troubleshooting for you, my laptop needs to work....for work. Sorry.

I have this as well, mostly it seems when I'm doing a lot of stuff at the same time.
What seems to help is to disconnect, wait a couple of seconds, then reconnect the dock. I In my case it is a Kensington SD3000 connected over a USB 2.0 cable to a Dell 6430u Laptop with Win7x64. USB 3.0 cables don't work, except for a brief moment when I was de-installing the DisplayLink SW to do a clean reinstall. Somewhere during the installation process a USB Driver gets overwritten that causes my USB3 to fail. |
Hi,
Which of the issues mentioned here are you seeing? Thanks, James |
What I am seeing is just the screen flashing. Ethernet stays connected.
I have noticed some patterns, maybe they are correct, maybe not. I have a setup on my desktop where I have one big 24inch monitor that I share using an ATEN KVM switch between my laptop+Dock and my Desktop-PC. Whenever I switch from Laptop+Dock to KVM and return to the Laptop+Dock after a while, the screen flashing is much more severe. The ATEN KVM switch connects/disconnects the USB+MOUSE+Monitor from the Laptop+Dock, because I can hear the "USB Connection" beeps that Windows makes, whenever I switch. Hope this helps |
Hi James,
I have usb Hardware ID version 2397 installed. USB\VID_2109&PID_0811&REV_2397 |
The other unit we have is running REV_2198
What should it be? |
Hi,
REV_2198 is the latest version. You can download it from here: http://support.toshiba.com/support/m...eeText=3286829 Thanks, James |
Hi,
Just to keep you updated - the issue with flickering is currently under investigation as we've found a reliable way to reproduce this. I'll post an update again when I know more. Thanks, James |
Hi,
The screen flashing issue is fixed in the next release due out to coincide with the release of Windows 8.1. Thanks, James |
