7.5M0 bug: breaks Miracast cloning mode and excessive drain on connected standby.

Although the 7.5M0 drivers are nice and fast on my Dell Venue 8 Pro, I just discovered a couple of bugs. With the drivers installed: miracasting to a wireless display does not work in cloning (mirroring) mode. All other modes work fine. There is also an excessive power drain during connected standby. The powercfg /sleepstudy says that it is due to the Intel Graphics not shutting down properly. Once I uninstall the Displaylink driver, everything returns to normal, Miracast cloning works and connected standby has a very low power drain.

Hope you will be able to resolve this, thanks.

Hi,

The connected standby issue is being investigated.

Can you attach logs for the miracast issue? What make and model receiver are you using?

Thanks,
James

I am using the Netgear Push2TV PVT3000 adapter. The debug log is attached here. The Displaylink adapters were not connected when I took the log, only Miracast was operating in extended desktop mode.

Thanks for looking into this matter.

JamesH 12-12-2013 12:24 PM

Hi,

I'll try and reproduce this - can you please attach the logs with Miracast set to mirror?

Thanks,
James

BurningOrange 12-12-2013 05:02 PM

Well, that's the whole point. It doesn't go into mirror mode. I click on "Duplicate" in the charms and nothing happens. If I click on "Clone" via the Intel Graphics menu or options panel, nothing happens.

BurningOrange 12-16-2013 10:53 PM

Hi JamesH, have you managed to replicate the Miracast mirroring bug ?

JamesH 12-20-2013 01:32 PM

Hi,

Not yet on the system we have- I've raised this internally for further investigation.

Thanks,
James

BurningOrange -
Was wondering if you could confirm, did clone mode work with 7.4 drivers and only recently broke with 7.5? I am experiencing the same problem, but I've only ever had the 7.5 update installed. If 7.4 worked with cloning and you were able to mirror screen, I was considering finding a way to go down to that.

Hi,

After a lot of faff, I've finally managed to get Miracast working (extend & clone) on the Belkin ScreenCast that I have. Will report back on how I get on with this and the Dell Venue 8 Pro next week.

Thanks,
James

BurningOrange 12-30-2013 08:59 PM

BillATS, that's a good point. No, I have not tried it with the 7.4 drivers, only with the 7.5M0 drivers. I'll give that a go.

JamesH: I'm looking forward to seeing what your results are. Miracast is probably not ready for prime-time yet, I find it a bit fussy about connecting 5.1audio, and it crashes the Wifi card upon disconnection. But I think that may be a Dell Venue 8 Pro problem because the crashes also happens with bluetooth too (nothing to do with Displaylink).

Netgear P2tv + dell new driver works

Hi guys dell driver for inter chipset rel from dec 02 13 works, with netgear, however you have to go to desktop and setup profile for miracast with intel application and configure it to clone.

I also have surface pro and that device works fine with netgear, however I have major issues when I want to use BT k/m and miracast did you experience any issues with this kind of setup?

Thanks Michael

i can repro this problem too

I have a dell venue 8 pro as well and can reproduce this same problem with both the 7.4 and 7.5 drivers. Its truly frustrating. I have to uninstall the display link drivers in order to mirror miracast onto my TV, then install them to hook up to my display link dock.

I'm really interested in a solution here. Thanks.

Hi,

This has been raised internally to to try and reproduce.

On the Belkin ScreenCast I had after getting extend and mirror working once I could never subsequently get it to work.
I went through numerous threads including this one http://en.community.dell.com/support.../19531153.aspx

FYI: We are also still working on the connected standby issue.

I'll update you when I hear more on both issues.

Thanks,
James

thanks James. hope you can update us. a lot of folks I know of end up not using the displaylink-enabled products because of this issue

blingers 02-19-2014 08:06 AM

I got the same miracast issue with my Dell venue 8 pro. I can't clone/mirror in miracast mode when displaylink drivers are installed. I'm using the Netgear PTV3000 and an ebay miracast dongle (ipazzport/rockchip) so its not adapter specific.

I have to uninstall the displaylink software to get the clone feature back in miracast.

I also get the excessive battery drain on connected standby when displaylink drivers are installed.

This was with v7.4 drivers

JamesH 02-19-2014 01:04 PM

Hi,

The next release due out at the end of this month has a fix for the battery drain issue when your adapter / dock / monitor is disconnected from your tablet / notebook.

The Miracast issue is still being investigated.

Thanks,
James

Hi,

R7.5M1 with this fix is now available here:
http://www.displaylink.com/support/downloads.php

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks,
James

Great. It looks like the new driver has fixed the connected standby issue. I have not had an excessive drain since yesterday. Haven't been able to try the Miracast cloning yet, but will report back.

Thanks for working on this.

JamesH 03-02-2014 12:04 AM

Hi,

Good to hear, thanks for the feedback.

To clarify, the Miracast cloning issue is still being investigated.

Thanks,
James

BurningOrange 03-07-2014 06:38 PM

Just to report and confirm that the new drivers 7.5M1 have fixed the connected standby drain, but (as expected), the Miracast cloning mode is still broken.

Glad to hear that the issue is still being investigated, and look forward to its resolution.

Same issue here

I'm seeing the exact same thing. The moment the display link drivers gets installed and activated the first time, Cloning is broken - both on DisplayLink and on Miracast. I wasn't even able to get cloning working again by uninstalling the DisplayLink drivers. I performed a full on reset of the PC and still didn't work, then uninstalled and re-installed the display drivers and finally Miracast started working (not sure how the state survived the full refresh but it did).
I repeated the process and installed the display link drivers yet again. Same thing happens: Clone is broken. Here's what happens when clicking apply: http://twitpic.com/dxnvug/full

I tried reinstalling the Intel Graphics drivers after installing DisplayLink, but that didn't resolve it.

Cloning with DisplayLink

...btw has anyone here been able to clone DisplayLink on the Venue Pro? (I don't really care much about Miracast myself, but cloning DL is important for presentations in environments with lots of wifi devices interfering with Miracast)

Dell forum

This forum on the dell website describes the exact behavior I'm experiencing:

I also can't clone the displaylink monitor with this new driver update on my venue 8 pro. Displaylink is working on a fix.

Good to hear that the update has fixed the standby battery drain problem. I will test this overnight.

Edit: no additional battery drain with the driver update. Now for the mirror/cloning issues

BurningOrange 04-30-2014 05:01 AM

The latest update (7.6M0) has fixed the Miracast cloning issue. It all works beautifully now ! No connected standby drain, cloning, all good ! Thanks to JamesH for keeping us informed and thanks to Displaylink for resolving the issues. Good job !
