Chromebook compatibility
Hi all,
I have a new chromebook and was very happy to see native support. Connecting the dock (Targus 110 dock) gets recognised and USB and audio works through it fine however I cannot get displays to work. I've tried VGA and HDMI. Any ideas what is going wrong? Asus Chromebook C302 running Chrome OS Version 74.0.3729.159 (Official Build) (64-bit) thanks... PS it says not to use this group for problem reports but there is a sub forum for chrome! |
Hello Deedub,
Would you have the monitor details, please? I have escalated this to the development team for advice. Kind regards, Alban Ref 30125 |
Could you capture general Chrome device logs as described here:

Surely the monitor is not relevant, that's the point of DisplayLink. Anyway I have tried the following: - Dell P2210 - Samsung HD TV (not sure the model) I would like to be able to use the displaylink capability with confidence regardless of external screen device as this may not be know ahead of needing it (due to travel, new places, etc,) |

I tried to upload the logs but I keep getting a 'security token missing' message - whatever file format I try... (26Mb zip file should be fine right) Dave |
Hi Deedub!
The size of the logs might be the issue. Can you upload them to cloud storage e.g. Google drive and sharing the link to download? regards Lukasz |

Hi, Deedub
Can you try to connect that dock to some Windows machine(with latest drivers)? regards Lukasz |
BTW,
I don't see in logs any appearance of DisplayLink USB device. Did you gathered logs with unplugged DisplayLink device? regards Lukasz |

What I noticed this time when it connects is the audio level moves around. It then connects and immediately disconnects. This time I connected to a different TV and have a message pop-up that says its connecting and then "Removed display Panasonic TV" in the chrome notification area. Looks like it's connecting and then rejecting the device? |
Logs seems to confirm what you said. I see correct logs and even some initial frames, but this is immediately is followed with usb device remove event.
Also in system logs I see usb hub errors. Most likely usb hub is bricked. You can confirm this by doing following experiments. 1. Detach monitors from DisplayLink dock 2. Connect other usb device(e.g. pendrive, mouse) to the usb3 port of the dock. 3. Connect Ethernet cable to the displaylink dock 4. Connect device to Chromebook 5. After a while attach monitor do DisplayLink dock When you observe that issue does that devices(pendrive, mouse, ethernet) stop working as well? What I can suggest is to try other usb port in yours Chromebook. You can also try to connect DisplayLink device using usb2 cable. |

I went through your steps listed and found the following: - All other devices connect - During the initial connection the volume slider is shown and the level jumps up and down - Hub is disconnected before the display is connected - When I do get to connect the display ir shows the desktop briefly before disconnecting Since I started this, Chrome OS has been updated from 74 to 75. Same issue exists. |
