Dell D6000 - DisplayPort Alternate-Mode for HDMI as 3rd Display

Hi, I have a D6000 dock and it will not detect the third monitor at all. I have to DP's and one HDMI if I remove one of three cables the two monitors will work but not the third. This is what I did so far to troubleshoot:
1. Downloaded the D6000 Driver
2. Placed new DP's and HDMI cable
3. Used the D3100 Driver
4. Used the Clean tool to remove all instances of the dock drivers

none of these steps have solved the issue.
Please assist

Hello,
Thank you for describing the steps.
When you have 3 displays connected, is the non-functional screen always on HDMI?
Kind regards,
Alban

No, if I remove a DP cable it will allow the HDMI and DP but not all three at the same time.

And do you use a type A or type C plug?

I believe it is because the third display doesn't go through DisplayLink, but DisplayPort Alt-Mode for the third, on HDMI.
To use that third display, you need Type-C and DisplayPort Alt-Mode on the PC as it's not using DisplayLink technology.

Good Day everyone,

I am having the same issue as Lvernabe, My D6000 Dock is not displaying on all of my computer screens. The only reason I bought it is because it says it has the ability to do so over the USB-C connection.

I have two display ports and hdmi plugged into the dock and the USB-C plugged into my laptop.

I have updated the drivers for Displaylink, USB-C, NIVIDA Graphics Card, and Intel Integrated HD Graphics

I have disabled the laptop monitor and still wont recognize the HDMI monitor.

When I unplug a displayport monitor the HDMI monitor turns on.

Any assistance would be helpful.

Hello,

I will summarise what the Dell D6000 does, as I can feel a trend starting.
First, DisplayLink doesn't design, manufacture or sell any end product. DisplayLink is a semiconductor company, we sell chips.

Dell has designed the Dell D6000 integrating two technologies:
- DisplayLink with the DisplayLink DL-6950 chip,
- DisplayPort Alternate-Mode (Alt-Mode).

Because DisplayLink is universal, and also works over the Type-A connector, it has priority over the alternate-mode.
The DisplayLink DL-6950 series is driving 2 displays (+ audio + Ethernet).
The DisplayPort Alt-Mode is ONLY invoked/usable for:
  1. The 3rd display, AND
  2. The HDMI output only, AND
  3. Using the Type-C connector only, AND
  4. On platforms which support DisplayPort Alternate-Mode (over Type-C). This is a hardware requirement on the laptop/desktop.

You have no issue when using ANY combination of TWO displays: DP+DP or DP+HDMI
This means you have no issue with DisplayLink technology.

You have an issue only with the 3rd display, and only on the HDMI output.
This means you have an issue with DisplayPort Alternate-Mode.

The display matrix is detailed in the Dell D6000 user guide page 4.

The platform you have may not feature DisplayPort Alternate-Mode, you may be using a display mode not supported by the dock, monitor, or graphics card.
As this has nothing to do with DisplayLink, I would recommend you contact Dell, the manufacturer/seller, for support on that third party technology used.

The Dell D3100 was designed differently. It only uses DisplayLink technology.

Kind regards,
Alban

D6000

Thank you for the quick reply and information. I have contacted my manufacturer for details of my type-c port on my laptop to see if I have the hardware requirement.

Did anyone ever get a resolution to this via Dell? I'm in the same situation.

The_Doot_ 10-02-2017 11:08 PM

No luck

So far I still have no resolution. I contacted my computers manufacturer to check if my type C port supports alt video via thunderbolt and they said yes but the DP driver still doesn’t do it. I’m at a loss of what to do next.

This is how I'm getting around it for now. Bought the D6000 so I didn't have to do this but seems to be the only way around it.

I've confirmed this will work with an older version I have that only does 1080P. Heading to the store to pick up the below this evening. I've spent $50 worth of my time on this issue already.
