Steam crashes when DisplayLink driver is installed

Hello all,

I have a E2251FWU USB monitor (which I love), and I have a strange problem with it.

Whenever the DisplayLink software is installed, I get a D3D (DD3D30) error when launching Steam games. Specifically, GTA IV and Counter Strike: Global Offensive have crashed on me whenever this software is installed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers multiple times and can confirm that the DisplayLink drivers cause these games to crash.

Has anyone else experienced these issues, and is there a solution you are aware of?

Thanks a lot.

Hi James,

I am also encountering the same problem.Hi,

I recently purchased an upgraded Scan 3XS Graphite LG135 Gaming Laptop and a Plugable UD-3000 USB 3.0 Docking Station. When the DisplayLink drivers are installed (regardless of whether or not the computer is plugged into the docking station), Steam games (specifically Napoleon Total War and Dawn of War II) do not run, in fact they do not even reach the splash screen, but instead crash. When I scrubbed the system of all DisplayLink drivers, both games worked fine.

Please can you help? I really want to be able to use the Dock as I spent a lot on it!

Many thanks!

Hi James,

Thanks for getting back to me. Here is the output from the DisplayLink Support tool.

Once I deleted all of the drivers the games worked as normal again!

Can you help?

Many thanks,

Ian.

Another Crash

I've had crashes too for a while now, and after many attempts at resolving
them I finally gave up and re-installed the system. Testing after each
installed bit identified the DisplayLink driver as the offender. It happened to
me with other games not just under steam. In all cases, the Windows event
viewer had a crash event from an AMD driver, the application is different, but
the rest is always the same as in the below. (Sorry, I'm not going to try the
logging tool since I don't want to risk this machine getting broken again; but
please do something to fix it.)
