Latest 2.3 drivers cause kernel panic

Installing the DisplayLink 2.3 drivers on my 2011 Macbook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.2 causes a kernel panic during boot up. Then my computer just keeps restarting, kernel panic, restart, kernel panic, restart, etc. The only way to stop the kernel panic is to boot into safe mode and uninstall the DisplayLink drivers.

Could you please collect the kernel panic logs and attach them here or send them through http://www.displaylink.com/support/ask_question.php?

Kernel panics should be logged to /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/ and the file name should start with "Kernel_".

Thank you
Christian

Hi jordanbop,

The kernel extension that panics is com.avatron.AVExFramebuffer. This is probably the virtual screen for a product called Air Display.

It's possible that the kext is making some assumptions about the screens available on the systems and adding the DisplayLink screens confuses it. Still, it probably was not Avatron's intention for it to kernel panic!

One solution of course is to uninstall the Air Display kext or upgrade it to see if there is a fix already available.
If you want to use both Air Display and DisplayLink and the issue persists it's best to raise a bug with them. If their support needs to ask any details from us, please let them write to our support and we'll help them out as much as we can.

Cheers,
Carlo

Carlo,

I uninstalled the Air Display drivers and that did stop the kernel panic. I will contact Avatron and let them know about the incompatibility with the two installed together.

Thanks!

I contacted Avatron and this is what they said:

"Yes, we are aware of the current conflict and will be working on potential solutions in the future. In the meantime, you would need to disable our drivers while using DisplayLink and visa versa, as you already know."
