Mouse Lag on attached screen in macOS Sierra

I'm running a dev preview of macOS Sierra and noticing some mouse lag on my attached screen. I realize this is a preview and not fully supported yet, but is this a known issue?

Yes Sierra dev previews are slow. This has happened for the dev previews of the last two OS versions as well.
For the moment we consider this to be expected. We'll be much more worried if the issue continues after a few public betas.

Carlo, I understand DisplayLinks position on dev/beta software, so I am just replying to this thread to add information that I hope is helpful. I have no expectation that issues are fixed on dev/beta builds of mac os.

I am running macOS Sierra 10.12 Beta (16A238m) Public Beta on a
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)
Processor 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel Iris 1536 MB
Storage 500GB PCI-E SSD
My DisplayLink device is a Dell D3100 triple display.

I have version Version: 2.6.0 b1 (73011) of the DisplayLink driver.

I am experiencing very slow mouse movement/lag as anurse has reported.

I also have observed slower draw times to monitors connected to my Dell D3100. E.G. Maximising/minimising windows, youtube video playback, etc. Take this with a massive grain of salt as I do not have hard data to back this up with, so it could be placebo.

However, the mouse lag is very REAL and noticeable. :)

EDIT1: macOS Sierra PB(Public Beta) 2(Version 10.12 Beta (16A254g)) just hit. Will update this post with anything new after I get some time with the new PB.

EDIT2: After roughly 5 days with PB2, I can say nothing has improved from Apples side in regards to my usb 3.0 Dell D3100 triple display adapter/dock. Very slow refresh and extreme mouse lag. I've decided not to use my D3100 with this laptop for normal day to day tasks, and only reporting feedback here. Once a generally available build of macOS Sierra is out and/or new drivers come out from DisplayLink, ill try using it again for my daily driver.

Thank you for the details.

We've been seeing very different performance depending on the Mac. If you experience performance worse than on El Capitan can you please post here the Mac model and beta build you're using?

Thank you!
Carlo

Mac model: MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2014)

beta build: 2.6 Beta 1

Bad performance on the DisplayLink screen, mouse lag, slow window content after black windows...

Yeah, I'm still seeing performance problems in the first public preview as well, but I realize that may still be expected :). It's almost exclusively mouse lag for me, though I did see some video playback stuttering too.

I did encounter this when I was on the El Capitan previews too so I do expect it somewhat, just keeping the data flowing ;). The lag was not present in the final release of El Capitan though.

Hi All,

To recap these are the issues we're seeing with the developer beta 2:
- Slow on most systems
- Black content when windows are moved from an accelerated framebuffer to a DisplayLink (or other USB) screen. Black goes away refreshing the window contents.
- Permanent wrong colour/corruption on the left side of window titles

If you see anything more please let us know.
We have raised bugs with Apple but as usual we'd like to increase their priority: don't want to get stuck for one year or more like for other OS regressions.
If you see the same things, please do raise bugs at bugreporter.apple.com.

On the bright side Apple has fixed the following:
- The main mirror issues of El Capitan
- Picture in Picture (was still broken in the public beta)

Fixing mirror means that you can go back to version 2.5.1 if you want to try it without all the workarounds we had to put in place.

Best regards,
Carlo

That sounds like pretty good news Carlo

Have you heard if those fixes are being backported to 10.11.6 too, or will we just have to forge ahead with Sierra if we want those?

Hi all, here to rain on the parade.

Been using Displaylink hardware (in this case, the Plugable 3.0 docking station) since 10.10. Lived through the 10.11 dev beta with all that trouble, and 10.12 comes with a new host of issues that I didn't see in previous betas or here on this thread. This is a fresh install of Sierra off a USB boot drive running the 2.6 Beta 1.

Stuff I've seen that you have too:
  • Mouse lag/general sluggishness/low FPS

What is new:
  • Locking up on boot (unplugging USB fixes this problem; could be related to an external, bootable USB device connected through the dock that never fully registers)
  • USB HID (keyboard/mouse) no longer register (have to use USB ports on the mac instead)
  • Delayed startup of USB monitor from sleep

Thankfully the ethernet works just fine as its one of my primary use cases for the station, but no USB HIDs makes life difficult.

Same issues here as everyone else. Lag, lockups, etc.

Dev preview 3 16A254g
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)

There is a delay waking from sleep as well.

If you need any logs or things like that, I can send them
