MacBook Air M2 and Sonoma problem with flickering displays
Hi
I've been happily using a DisplayLink adapter (Startech USB3SDOCKHD) on my old MacBook Pro 2020 along with 2 external monitors. This worked fine on Ventura, plus I was in an old build of the DisplayLink (1.3). I've just upgraded to a MacBook Air M2 2022 and also to Sonoma. With that I also upgraded to the latest DisplayLink 1.10. Things were fine for a few hours, but now randomly and with no seeming trigger (sometimes when using Webex or teams) the displays cut out for a second, and occasionally Displaylink crashes. I've tried downgrading to earlier version of DisplayLink, as there seemed to be threads suggesting that was the issue. I've also tried different cables to no avail. I've also upgraded my MacBook Pro to Sonoma too, but so far it refuses to have the same issues. Any advice welcomed! |
I'm having the same issue this past week - the DL app on my Macbook with Sonoma suddenly crashes with no error messages or anything.
One thing I noticed is that it has happened twice while on video chat - Once on Slack, once on GChat. So not sure if the OSX video driver with this newest update somehow conflicts with the DL driver/app? |
Maybe roll back to 1.90 as a stable version.
I have MacBook Air 15" M2 2023 with a triple dock and no issues using 1.90 & Sonoma |

Yes its likely your charger may not have enough power to drive dock and charge at same time..
Always best to get a dock that come's with its own charger.. I use the Alogic DX3 drives 3 displays, chargers my M2 Air and many usb devices connected. |
