[Solved] Windows 10 Device is listed as Display Adapters not USB Display Adapters

I have a USB 3.0 to HDMI Adapter (103046) and have attempted to connect it to my windows 10 PC. Upon install the driver everything goes through fine and the display connects. However when I load up a Minecraft it errors with the code 87. Upon looking at this it is a problem with graphics cards. I do not get this error when not using the adapter though. When I open up Device Manager on my PC the adapter shows up under Display Adapters. However when I do the same on my laptop where Minecraft works correctly it shows up under USB Display Adapters.

So I think I need to somehow make the Device show under USB display adapters and not display adapters to make Minecraft work. But I have no idea how to do this. Can anyone please help?

Hello HannahMC00,

You are using different versions of Windows in the 2 laptops.
The graphics part of Windows changed between these two versions of Windows, and means that the DisplayLink device is now recognized as a standard display ***adapter***.
The graphics processing unit (= ***card*** or GPU) stays the same as before. DisplayLink does not, and never has been a graphics card computing pixels.

You would need to get more details from the failing software. But I would say it can come from the application which is not made for Windows 10 Anniversary Update and does not understand the concept of indirectly connected displays to the graphics card. It could also come from the graphics driver...

Kind regards,
Alban

Fixed!

After updated my AMD R9 360 drivers this is now fixed!
I assumed this wouldn't be the issue as it worked when the adapter wasn't in use. However, it appears since the windows 10 anniversary update changes how adapters work and no longer lists them as external devices. Becuase of this my GPU did not accept having another GPU.

Hello,

You still only have a single GPU.
You do however have multiple adapters. It is correct, this is new with Windows 10 Anniversary Update because of Windows native support for DisplayLink USB graphics.

Kind regards,
Alban
