Trying to get a M1 Mac Mini to output via Hypertec ProDockEssential 4K to 3 screens

Hi,

Trying to get a M1 Mac Mini to output via Hypertec ProDockEssential 4K to 3 screens.

GPU
1 x HDMI to 5K screen (fine)

For last output, USB-C to USB-C to dock then:
1 x Display port to VGA
1 x HDMI port to DVI

The two screens through the doc mirror not extend. I've installed the DisplayLink software but it says no monitor detected.

Can anyone help, pls?

Tx

Note from moderator:
I moved your post into the macOS section of the forum.

The device you are using --> https://hypertec.limited/connectivity/prodockextreme/ does not appear to have DisplayLink technology inside, so DisplayLink will not be able to help. This is why the DisplayLink software says, 'No monitor detected'.

Based on your description of the behavior, the Hypertec device uses an internal DisplayPort MST hub in order to power the connected displays.

DisplayPort MST hubs are not supported by macOS, which is why the displays connected to the device are in mirror mode and will not extend.

In order to connect more than one external display to an M1 Mac, you will need to use a device that has DisplayLink technology.

Cheers, rboerner. Very informative.

Have you any recommendations for a dock that does support the internal DisplayPort MST that might work with my configuration?

Many thanks for all your help,
Matt

To be clear, macOS does NOT support DisplayPort MST hubs.

You CAN use a device with DisplayLink technology to overcome the internal display limitations of an M1 Mac.

DisplayPort MST and DisplayLink are two very different technologies, despite the similarities in their name.

In regard to a DisplayLink alternative, DisplayLink has a web page that can help point you in the right direction --> https://www.displaylink.com/products
