Dell D6000 Dock - Netflix and Mouse Cursor Speed

Hi guys,

I have a D6000 and a XPS 13 with i5 and 8gb ram.

I'm running two external monitors, the laptop display is closed. I'm having a really bad graphics performance, mouse latency is high and video is even worse, low frame rates...

Netflix is not allowing me to watch with any external monitor, it only works with the built in display'.

I have a 1440p and a 1080p displays and both are connected to the mini display ports in the dock. I also have a keyboard, mouse and a sound card attached.

I think the dock is overheating and causing this bad performance, is any data to support that theory?

Hello Alex,

Which version of Windows are you using?

Netflix requires HDCP 2.2 with hardware encryption. This is a timely question as we're delivering it before Christmas on platforms it can work on.
You would need an Intel 7th Generation CPU and GPU.
Then, our driver 8.4 Alpha will make the film play at up to 1080p.

Strictly speaking, Netflix should work even if HDCP is not present, but at a lower quality than Full HD. This is up to the player to decide if they want to play or not.

You can download the 8.4 Alpha and feed back from the forum: https://www.displaylink.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=57

8.4 also includes mouse cursor speed improvements.

For more customised advice, please upload the machine logs gathered with the customer support tool. The last link of my forum signature explains how to use that tool. Only DisplayLink employees can download these from the forum.

IMPORTANT: do NOT update to Windows 10 FALL Creators Update (v1709) if you wish to use Netflix through indirect displays like DisplayLink. HDCP is broken on it for now and we're working with Microsoft to get it fixed and the fixed pushed to everyone.

Kind regards,
Alban

I'm using Windows 10 creators update already.

Netflix came back with this alpha update and also the mouse speed is way better, but I still think the dock is a bit hot. The last time I had to use a usb drive, it came out from the dock pretty hot...

Still, this driver made things better, thanks!

Hello Alex,

I am unable to comment on the temperature of the product.
DisplayLink does not design, manufacture or sell any end product, we are a semiconductor company and we only do one chip in that product, along with the driver to use it.
Dell has tested their thermal design under more stressful conditions than the one you currently have.

There are further performance improvements being worked on. If you have a Skylake or Kabylake machine, I hope we can deliver it for your computer in our 8.5 release, but it's a stretch goal today.

Kind regards,
Alban

Please note I mentioned Fall Creators Update (v1709), which is different from Creators Update (v1703).
If you do update, it will be broken. The issue has been located and fixed. They are working on seeing how to deploy the fix to Fall Creators Update users.
